Hold Firm by Sue Brown (Arc) Review!

Hold Firm (Biker Daddy Bodyguards, #1)Hold Firm by Sue Brown

“A Gripping, Emotional, Hopeful, Exciting Story”

A young man from a broken childhood, in desperate need of protection, in more ways than one, denies the need for a big, strong, mighty tree-like bodyguard.  Somehow along the way this traumatized good man discovers what could be considered as a simmering yet innate need and desire for more than a bodyguard, one who coincidentally also happens to fill another need as a mighty biker companion as well.

This new read is a semi-massive story with an favorable and addicting storyline, one that is filled-to-the-gill with emotional, chemistry-laden, exciting, heat-filled, humorous, adorable moments.  There are so many reasons why my current read is a story that can be described as a “I need to read this story right now!” type-of-story as it clearly contains so many things this reader tends to favor when reading.

Hold Firm, by Sue Brown, is clearly a big story that contains a powerful bodyguard, his mighty one-eyed cat, as well as a strong yet needy young musician who craves so much more than anyone truly understands.  As a result, this story contains triggers, both animal and human abuse.  They are the reasons why this reader was close to ending this read early, and that isn’t something that is typically done, if at all.  They are tough triggers that, in this readers opinion, are very tough to read.

With this in mind, there were also many things that lead the way for such a gripping, hopeful, and exciting read, that-kept-this-reader-GLUED all bug-eyed from beginning to end…

…YEAH…WHOOP! WHOOP!  Big strong bodyguards abound are what kept this reader cheering throughout this challenging read.  Moments of, “I’m not going to take anything from anyone, get out of my way!” type-of-scenarios, kept this reader from throwing a kindle across the room as a result of such unfathomable moments. It definitely turned into a special superman-esque type-of-read all with numerous twist and turns thrown into it as well.  All of which contributed to not being able to choose when to bawl, gasp, cheer, laugh..or drool in the end.

Hold Firm, is indeed a heavy story with a deep storyline which contains a bit of a daddy/boy kink as well.  There was so much to this story, perhaps so as to set the stage for future books of this series, that in the end had this reader actually wishing for more from this story.  I wish there was more of a steady pace with more development, especially in the area of the trauma, which was shocking that it was handled with such brevity as it is without-a-doubt one that should be handled with absolute care.  In addition, I also felt the thrilling moments were over before I even had a chance to even start biting my nails.

BUT!  Hold Firm collectively was a great story.  It’s storyline was fabulous; with its protective, nurturing, and comforting moments, its plot plentiful; with so many already developing sub-plots, and its yummy and mostly wonderful main and secondary characters as well.  There were exciting, emotional, adorable, humorous, and heat-filled moments, that collectively made this a great read. I really liked it! 🙂

Close Proximity, Book 3

Sometimes the best love stories come in two parts.

When Felix met handsome journalist Max Travers, it was lust at first sight. It was just his luck that he then had to develop a terrible case of feelings and got his heart broken. However, two and a half years later, he’s over all of that. His job is going well, he has good friends, and he doesn’t lack for male company. Which, of course, is when Max has to come bursting back into his life.

Felix Jackson will always be the one who got away to Max. He’s spent their time apart regretting his actions and hoping for a second chance. When an accident lands him in Felix’s less than tender care, Max is determined to grab this opportunity. The only problem is that Felix is equally determined that he doesn’t.

From bestselling author, Lily Morton comes a story of missed opportunities, second chances, and two very stubborn men. This is the third book in the Close Proximity series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

“How old do you think I am?” he says mock flirtatiously, leaning in close enough that I catch his scent of sandalwood. It brings back memories of rolling all over those soft sheets in that hotel room. I’ve been perturbed to find my mind straying to memories of that room a few more times than it should have over the last week.

He’s watching me intently again, and I swallow hard and tap my teeth thoughtfully. “I think probably sixty.” He opens his mouth in mock horror, and I laugh. “Only because you’re so wise,” I say reverently. “Being intelligent really piles the years on.”

He shakes his head. “I’m thirty-seven,” he says, trying not to laugh. “Can you see my crow’s feet?”

“A crow never made those lines. That’s surely got to be a bigger bird.” I wink at him as he laughs loudly. I eye the table where a book is sitting next to his pint. “What are you reading?”

He looks slightly awkward. “Ruth Rendell.”

“Oh, Inspector Wexford. My grandma used to watch those on the telly,” I say cheerfully.

“Thank you so much for that information,” he says darkly. “It’s made my day so happy.”

I laugh. “It’s like I carry sunshine wherever I go.” I eye him. “So, do you like reading crime novels?”

“I do.” He smiles. “I’ve always thought it would be incredibly easy to murder someone and get away with it, so I like it that people get found out in these books.”

I blink. “Said no man ever who hoped to get laid.”

He laughs. “I’m not going to murder you, Felix. Your arse is far too perky for that to happen.”

“I always knew my buttocks could save a life.”

He bites his lip, laughter brewing in those dark eyes as he leans forward. “The only way I’ll kill you is when you die from an overdose of the pleasure that my cock gives you.”

After draining my drink, I put the bottle on the table and stand up to grab my coat. “Pride goes before a fall, Max,” I say. “Maybe we’d better get you back to the hotel before you break something.”

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

                                         “A Heart-Warming, Second-Chance Love Story”

An incredibly heart warming, banter filled, side splitting, chemistry laden, heart breaking, stunningly beautiful second-chance love story has this reader sporting quite the book hangover as a result of being thoroughly immersed within a highly-anticipated new story.

I adored After Felix, by Lily Morton, as it was a lengthy, addicting love story filled with such a deep and detailed bumpy road for two amazing men, who in turn, learned to grow not only emotionally but also quite completely as each learned to grow, love and ultimately forgive.

WOW, I knew having read Charlie Sunshine, and loved it, this new read would be beyond impressive to read as well.  And, it really was a quite the read.  Throughout this particular story, while there were sporadic needy times for clarification or more development, I was literally-blown-away by the slowly, yet somehow sudden, discovery of a deeply-rooted storyline, containing amazing double-entendre, from this story.

After Felix, by Lily Morton, is a sensational story that, speaking for this reader, was best enjoyed as a slowly read discovery, with mouth permanently agape, as the sizzling, humorous, shocking, and healing moments, with the support of great secondary characters, all contributed to this story as being such a recommended read.  I was floored with the entirety of the storyline, the characters, the world-building, and the absolute addictive nature of this read.  I really, really liked it!  🙂

Alex by A.M. Salinger (Arc) Review!

Alex (Twilight Falls #1)Alex by A.M. Salinger

“An Exciting, Emotional, Beautifully Hopeful Story”

Ever look forward to reading a new story based mostly upon its primary setting?  *Raises hand*  Well, that would be yes for this reader.  As soon as I came across a new and upcoming story based in..Twilight Falls..I knew I had to read it.  Boy, am I glad that I did!

Alex, by A.M. Salinger, is a heart-warming, sizzling, heart-breaking, beautiful story filled with intrigue, angst, humor, and, numerous moments filled with self-discovery and eye-opening revelations.  It was a story that kept me glued to my kindle as the plot slowly unfurled and continued down such an enticing road.  With the existence of such a deep plot, I needed to actually remind myself to slow down as I read with the hopes that it would stretch out into a deliciously well-rounded story.  As a result, it wound up having such a wonderfully entertaining storyline, a lengthy plot with plentiful gripping sub-plot(s), amazingly addictive main characters, mostly fabulous secondary ones, and, an overflowing amount of scorching chemistry.

While I admit that one of the reasons why I looked forward to reading this book was due to its setting, it actually turned into quite the story.  On the other hand, with its super initial development, I had ultimately wished that it had focused on more of the main plot, as it was such a beautifully emotional one, and less of so many sub-plots, despite all of them being so equally amazing.  With that being said, as this is the first book of a new series, its currently heavy plot leads the way for many exciting possibilities for future books.

Alex, is a great story filled with beautifully emotional moments, wonderful main characters, and, the slowly percolating sub-plots, that already have this reader eagerly looking forward to more of the Twilight Falls Series..:)

He Owns My Heart by Evie Drae (Arc) Review!

He Owns My Heart (Owned Heart, Body, & Soul, #1)He Owns My Heart by Evie Drae

“An Intensely Emotional, Strengthening, Beautiful Story”

An exquisitely beautiful, intense, highly emotional story about love, sacrifice, strength, and, devotion has just left this reader with one massive book hangover.  Massive being the operative word as the depth of truly indescribable heartache and turmoil has blown this reader away with its absolute magnitude.  If there was one story that I needed to skip right to the ending to guarantee a happy ending, this was one of them.  Alas, I didn’t, and it was very difficult not to do so.  But, in the end, it was so-very-worth-it.

He Owns My Heart, by Evie Drae, is undoubtedly a tremendously powerful story.  It contains a deep, dark, gut-wrenching, desperately beautiful storyline, with main characters with such unwavering strength, that would ordinarily take only a slight breeze to knock anyone else right over, in similar situations, had there been the slightest provocation.

This is a story that contains major difficult-to-read trigger-filled heart-breaking moments; mental and physical abuse, depression, human trafficking, attempted rape, and, annoying self-centered ex-boyfriends.  Throughout the story, there were many seemingly never ending moments of pain, shock, numbness, and, disbelief.  I was glued to every-single-page as I read through this love story heavily disguised as a life time of heartache, depravity, and a yearning for normalcy.  I needed to on many different occasions jump right through my kindle so as to shield the character(s) from any kind of further suffering.  Hence the need to skip to the ending for that needed reprieve.

He Owns My Heart in its own right, it is an incredible story.  Its storyline is heart-breaking, and yet, stunningly gorgeous and breathtaking.  With a lengthy and, at times, exhausting plot, it was a relief that the characters were great and addicting; ones that I either loved immensely, found myself cheering, and, fist pumping, or needing to strongly request the removal of ones brain out of their..behinds.  Throughout this story, as the plot, and sub-plot(s), had progressed, as such, it was also a welcoming relief, for this reader, to have such sizzling chemistry between the two main characters, so as to bring another dose of levity throughout such a difficult read.

That being said, however, I also found there to be sporadic bouts of confusion, as a result of a differing pace, slight repetition, and a need for more of a noticeable transition throughout the developing plot, as well as a desire for a slight development to the sub-plots.

All in all, He Owns My Heart is a powerful story, with addicting characters, an intense storyline filled with humorously needy moments, strong chemistry, and, surprisingly giddy moments as well.  In the end, I do recommend this story, as it does contain a deep and necessary storyline, with the added warning, due to the existence of such triggers, which may be difficult to read.  I enjoyed reading the beginning of such a strong journey for Landon and Toby. 🙂

Fall Again by Ann Lister (Arc) Review!

Fall Again (The Rock Gods Book 10)Fall Again by Ann Lister

“An Addicting, Exciting, Emotional, Rock-Infused Story”

SQUEEEE!  *begins to twirl around*  I am absolutely in love with my most recent read!  It has ev-ry-thing, EVERYTHING, any book lover would love to be able to soak themselves in, through, and, around, it was just that YUMMY!  It had excitement, intrigue, hope, chemistry, humor, giddiness, nail-biting angst, extreme sadness, and plentiful moments of brevity needed for that grab of secondary tissues.

Wow, super great writing was definitely discovered in this new read as, Fall Again, by Ann Lister, was one of those stories that ranked right up there as one of the best.  It doesn’t make a difference that it was the somewhat continuation of book #1 from The Rock Gods Series, as the smoothness and continuity made up for it for a first time or returning reader.  It was one that had just about everything to be able to hold on to this reader, and for this, I did not want to put it down at all.  While, sure, I would have liked more depth in a few areas, and there was a smattering of typos, and it took a little bit to get into initially, but, really?  Meh, it all works out cohesively as one fantastic story.   And, once it got going?  I didn’t-want-it-to-end.

WHOOP!  WHOOP!  I loved the characters and their realistic undertone, the familial love and cohesiveness, THE MUSIC, and then the existence of multiple teasers for future books and incredible storylines had me throwing in the towel for a known repeat for a go-to author for continued great stories.

All of the rock-infused, exciting, heart-warming stories by Ann Lister are ones with such realistic storylines, addicting characters, and, naturally great cameos, that all have this reader eager for the next great read.  I absolutely loved it!  🙂

Derek’s Destiny by T.L. Travis (Arc) Review!

Derek's Destiny (Maiden Voyage #2)Derek’s Destiny by T.L. Travis

                                                       “A Rock Story with Heart”

A heart-warming, inspirational, emotional, family-centered story about finding love while simultaneously facing one’s demons, to ultimately be able to let go with the strength to finally truly live has just crossed my path.  And, wow, it definitely should have been a wider path to say the least because..freight train.

Derek’s Destiny, by T.L. Travis, with it’s exciting, adorable, humorous, and, emotional moments, is a story, that according to this reader, is a great one to read that despite moments of needed development, depth, and another round of editing, as there were many head-scratching needy moments as well, turned into one super great story.

WOAH…what just happened?  Where did all of this salty wetness come from?  Well, it must be another story from T.L. Travis.  It all kind of comes out of nowhere, like a freight train.  BAM!  And then it leaves the reader in a bewildered state of reader-haze.  While yes, it did take this reader a bit to get a hold of the entire plot, as there were a few ups and downs, like that proverbial freight train, once It was reached, I didn’t want it to end.

Derek’s Destiny, by T.L. Travis, as a whole, is a great story with a great storyline, with wonderfully varied main characters; some of which I need to squeeze hug immediately, fantastic secondary characters; a few I need to crazy tickle, and an intriguing sub-plot, all of which had this bubbling musical undertone that I was anxious to immerse myself in as well.

I really liked this story, that despite really needing more, it all packs a punch in the end that collectively has this reader already looking forward to the rest of the Maiden Voyage series.  I really liked it. 🙂

To catch a killer, a special agent and his former student will need to get close—to their target, and each other.

When the serial killer known as Dr. Fear seemingly reemerges after a cooling-off period, Special Agent Lincoln Monroe wants on the case. He knows his research on the calculating criminal, who targets couples and uses their worst fears to kill them, could prove invaluable. But nothing can prepare Lincoln for the agent waiting for him in Apex, Virginia: a brash and cocky former student. Carter Warren is everything Lincoln is not, and somehow everything he wants. And they’ll be going undercover. As newlyweds.

For Carter, seeing Lincoln again—and flustered to boot—pokes his raging bear of a crush something fierce. He thinks posing as lovers will provide the perfect bait for Dr. Fear. But pretending to be married forces them to confront fears of their own…like giving in to the very real chemistry between them.

With evidence pointing to the possibility of a copycat killer, Lincoln and Carter will have to race to separate truth from fiction. But when another couple goes missing, finding the killer will test every ounce of their training, skills and the strength of their bond like never before.

Excerpt:

Lincoln bent to pick his socks up off the floor, and Carter admired his firm, round ass in well-worn jeans. He’d never seen Lincoln this dressed down before. Not that the professor wasn’t handsome in slacks, a button-down, and argyle, but jeans, a tee, and said argyle was a look Carter could get behind.

Literally.

That gray tee and pink-and-purple argyle rucked up around his torso, those jeans stretched around lean, muscular thighs, that perfect ass in the air, pale skin flushed for the kisses Carter would like to…

A sharp clap broke through the fantasy unspooling in Carter’s head. Lincoln was on his way back from the mudroom off the kitchen, exasperation painting his face, as if he could see inside Carter’s head. “Explain this,” he said, using his ring finger to gesture between them. “Beverley said I was going undercover as the new librarian at Apex U and that my partner on this case would be teaching a survival course to Apex PD. He said nothing about living together or pretending to be married.”

“Because I asked him not to,” Carter replied. Lincoln opened his mouth, no doubt to protest, but Carter spoke again first. “It wasn’t only Agent—Senator—Kirk who asked for you on this case. I asked for you too. You are the Bureau’s resident expert on Dr. Fear. But it doesn’t take an expert to know who Dr. Fear targets.”

“Couples.”

Carter nodded and waited for the implication to register.

It took a few seconds, but then Lincoln paled and braced a hand on the end of the island. “You want us to be bait?” he squawked.

Carter dipped his chin to hide his grin. When he was sure his face was in order again, he lifted it and said, “If they’re active again, or even if this is a copycat, who better to lead the killer to than to two trained agents instead of to more innocents?”

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

Gregory

“Oops! You dropped your coat,” a musical voice calls out to me, winding its way around my heart and squeezing my soul. Before I even see whoever said those fateful words, I already know who he is to me: my mate. As I turn toward my chair, over which my pelt had been slung but from which it is now missing, a glorious, yet frightful sight greets me: a short, light-brown-haired omega with bright hazel eyes holds my dark brown coat out to me. My heart almost stops at the vision, my eyes going wide and my breath catching in my throat. He has just offered my pelt back to me, giving me the freedom to claim him as my mate or reject him. The ritual is ancient, its meaning significant. If you hold a selkie’s coat, hiding it, refusing to give it and his free will up, you control him until the end of his days. But if you hand it back with no expectation of return, then you mate your selkie for life. This action is so sacred that most selkies make it the climax of a mating ceremony or shun public eyes and perform this magical final step in private. But my omega, my mate, whom I have never laid eyes on until this very moment, places it softly in the hands I have outstretched toward him on sheer instinct, unknowingly binding me to him for all of my days.

“There you go. I’m glad I caught it before it could hit the ground. Wouldn’t do to drop something as beautiful as that,” he softly says as he smiles up at me after laying my pelt in my outstretched hands. He runs his fingers down the soft, plush fur, with the grain, and I feel it as though his hand is gliding down my spine. I am too stunned to say a single word as he gives the coat a final pat, then smiles even more brightly, though with the faintest hint of longing in his eyes, as if he is reluctant to break our gaze.

“Have a nice evening. I hope you enjoy your dinner.”

My throat is too clogged for me to utter a single word to him as he turns away, walking quickly toward the stainless-steel doors of the restaurant’s kitchen. Someone else’s throat clears, and I snap my head around to find my mother seated at our table, just as she was a few moments ago, before my entire world shifted and my mate returned my precious pelt to me.
