Charlie Sunshine by Lily Morton (Arc) Review!

Charlie Sunshine (Close Proximity, #2)Charlie Sunshine by Lily Morton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

                                                   “Books, Baking, and Binding Love”

An exquisitely beautiful, gripping, and, heart-warming story just brought this reader to her knees as a result of such a superb display of words and emotions.  I hardly know what to say as to how much I loved this book.  The beauty of the words with their gorgeous, raw, whole-hearted and breathless meaning had this reader in an almost catatonic state while glued to the pages throughout the entire read.  The way the storyline loving wrapped itself around this lover of its extensive breadth, was welcomed.  I adored it more than I can truly say.

Charlie Sunshine, by Lily Morton, is one of the best books I have read in a very long time.  There is so much about it that I adored, as it’s plot hugged me throughout the glorious ups and the scary downs.  The characters were multi-dimensional and also wonderful, especially the main ones, Charlie and Misha.  Soulmates if there was ever a more majestic pair.  I cannot express the grandiose amount of depth and enormity of their devotion for one another, which was naturally infused into their developing little bodies from when they were children.  The bright, strong, and absolute completeness of their fused bond is breathtaking.

As a seemingly invisible entity inches its way through an eternally good soul, an even larger desperate and needy state threatens to take over, as this dominant manifestation begins to take control of such a tragic new condition.  As a result, friends and family come in swarms to provide the warm and unconditional support for Charlie who is in a newly developed state of caution and finality.  And the one person who is blindly but steadfastly leading the way is..his guardian angel, Misha.

Charlie Sunshine is written in such a way that enables the reader to drink in each and every syllable and each and every perfectly spaced word as they all have their own purpose to this story.  And for this reader, it’s purpose is to reveal a strong desire to love wholeheartedly, to love fiercely, to be free and love oneself and to love the entire person regardless of anything else.  I am blown away by Charlie Sunshine, and, I never knew how much I would have loved it beforehand.  It’s the hills and the valleys of these gripping, humorous, and heartwarming words which make up an entire story that managed to curl itself right around my entire being..and I absolutely loved it.  I adore Charlie and Misha and am so beyond glad to have read their story.

Charlie Sunshine, by Lily Morton, will be considered as one of my Top Reads 2020.  With it’s character cameos, it’s abundance of celebrity and historical references, and an array of beautifully descriptive scenarios, all has enabled this reader to take long and mesmerizing ventures down multiple virtual English paths of learning.  Even with the sporadic need for clarification, at times, due to various British vernaculars, and the need for more depth, I thoroughly enjoyed taking a trip across the water as I got to read one of the best stories of 2020.  I absolutely loved it…

Loving Luke by Van Cole (Arc) Review!

“A Story of Growth, Love, and, Redemption”
Having just read a beautiful story about growth, love, redemption, forgiveness, and, ultimately whole-hearted love, has left me in a comfortable state of revolving warmth and happiness.  My most recent read can be interpreted as actually a process of learning about oneself and of finally reaching that desired pinnacle where self-acceptance and that everlasting needy-love is at its highest and most important placement in one’s life.  This process contained many different types of avenues, numerous dips and turns, as well as beautifully glowing pinnacles of light, happiness and everlasting love.
Loving Luke, by Van Cole, is just this type of story and I really enjoyed reading it.  It’s a story that slowly made its way though these dips and turns, and, ultimately made it’s way to a gigantic sturdy sunny mountain that produced a vast amount of strength, heat-filled chemistry, lots of warm-fuzzies, and, all-the-feels.  And, as one of the main characters had to dig through lost of hindering extras, so did this reader.
Loving Luke, is an interesting story that had this reader all over the place.  I am a true lover of stories containing characters, who strive towards their own redemption, in their own distinct way, and while there have been a few who literally needed to get their heads out of their behinds, and learn from their mistakes sooner rather than later, the journey for some..can be equally frustrating.  As in this particular example, I don’t know how many times I whisper-yelled at one of the main characters of this story, to get with it!  #TrueStory
Even though there were a few secondary characters interspersed throughout the story, they were all very realistic and wonderful.  I loved a few of them, really liked a few others, and am currently desperate to love the others, while at the same time..trying to figure them all out.
And..oh,boy.  It is in this reader’s opinion that there is a great need for extensive editing.  As a great deal of the story was lightly “told” in third person, rather than allowing the reader to be completely immersed within the developing storyline, it lost that needed overall connection.  Structurally, I found there to be a great need for more depth and development, as a whole, as well as more character background and development as well.
As an avid hockey fan, I was all ready for a super great and exciting storyline, one that brought about heavy amounts of cheering as a result of plentiful amounts of body checks, lightening-speed skating ending with last-minute goals. But, alas, it was over seemingly before the drop of the puck.
In addition, as the plot began off page, it was up to the reader to get beyond the feelings of coming in mid-relationship, as well as playing detective with this underlying direction.  It is also this reader’s opinion, that the inclusion of such a vital moment, must be included in order to develop a connection from the beginning of a story until the very end.  Otherwise, a true connection is lacking.  It is for these reasons that there was so much need for more for a well-developed, edge-of-my seat, all-the-feels, practically bawling my eyes out, kind-of-read.
Despite the need for the aforementioned areas, there is so much potential to this story.  There were so many things that I had enjoyed, so much warmth for various characters and moments, and, an overall sense of actual relief and admiration for the redemption which lead the way towards sunny and beautiful moments.
Ultimately, Loving Luke, by Van Cole, was a very good story, and despite the existence of many issues, it had that need-to-read factor and I really enjoyed it.

OFMAGICANDSCALES_dev copy

Of Magic and Scales, Book Two

The cast of supporting characters from Natalina Reis’s “Of Magic and Scales” are back and stronger than ever, and so are the pop culture references and silly jokes Aiden likes so much. As Aiden and his new family are joined by an unexpected antagonist that may yet prove to be their undoing, will their (un)domesticated new life as a couple be turned upside down?

Aiden Mercer’s life has changed dramatically since his days of being a man-whore, where he spent most of the time either running his coffee shop in sunny Portugal or man-watching at the beach. He now has Naël, a cranky merman to love and to hold, and his sister, Vee, and friends to care for. Life is good.

But life never seems to stop surprising the American ex-detective. A mysterious order of monks, a mermen poacher, shocking revelations about his parentage—and whoever is hunting him down—turn Aiden and Naël’s summer into one to remember. Or maybe one they’d rather forget.

Special Release Excerpt:

The air wavered, and the hooded figure of a monk appeared. He was dressed in a brown habit with an equally brown scapular connected to a large cowl. A belt made of what looked like thick rope was tied loosely around the waist. Hidden under the hood, his face was hard to discern in the dimness of the chapel. “Welcome to our sanctuary,” the man said, his croaky voice spilling from the darkness of his cowl. “My name is Brother John, Aiden. I trust you had a safe, pleasant trip here.” It wasn’t as if I had traveled from far away. I nodded, and the Brother took one hand from its hiding place within the folds of the scapular and pointed toward the door. “I will show you to your quarters.” I bit my tongue so I wouldn’t ask him to remove the mysterious cowl from his head and followed him. I looked at his feet as we made our way through the main hall with its creepy death door. He walked slowly but steadily on sandal-shod feet that seemed to not quite touch the floor. I shook my head, trying to dismiss the fancies of my imagination. He’s just a man in an ugly, scratchy tunic. A man who could materialize out of nothing. Magic saturated the air. I could feel it, smell it, overpowering and heavily perfumed like a lily-packed funeral home. I stuffed my hands in my pockets to stop them from trembling. When had I become this cowardly? The monk continued his ghostly journey into a church, a humble space that contrasted strongly with its luxurious marble altar. The monk stopped in front of the altar to genuflect briefly and bless himself before continuing toward a small exit door to the side. I didn’t know what to think so I decided to enjoy the tour. Inside the small hallway between the church and the next space, a dark corridor slanted downward. Why were we going underground? “I totally respect your reverence for the dead, but I am a bit squeamish around rotten flesh.” I was doing my nervous-talking thing again, trying to fill the oppressive silence with something less threatening. “So I hope you’re not taking me to the catacombs.” “We don’t have any dead buried here,” the monk said, not slowing down his pace down the tunnel. Darkness enveloped us as we proceeded deeper into the ground, the earthy smell of dirt, rocks, and moisture assailing my nostrils. “We’re walking through the Brothers’ cells. Please, keep silent while we cross them.” It was a narrow corridor that looked like it had been carved directly from the rocks. Squat and narrow doorways placed at intervals opened into equally small cells divested of any comforts or light other than a flickering candle. This was where these monks slept? My back hurt just thinking about sleeping on that rocky floor. After a moment or two, we were going uphill and toward a space that promised more light. As soon as we went over a large stone step, the air became fresher and lighter, and my lungs almost quivered in delight. At the top of the steps there was another doorway, this time normal-sized. Brother John opened the door and invited me in. “This will be your lodgings while you’re with us,” he explained, his face still annoyingly hidden inside the cowl. He pointed down the dark corridor. “The cell has direct access to the small cloister and the latrine house.” What? Latrine? That didn’t sound very modern or terribly comfortable and hygienic.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 12, 2019

Blurb
The highly anticipated conclusion to the “emotional, steamy, and dangerous” USA Today bestselling White Monarch series.

I’ve become a queen to the forsaken, a leader to thieves, and the wife of a man
who instills fear in all who cross his path. He was the husband I didn’t want.
Now, I can’t fathom life without my king.

I should’ve been ready for anything. Like the caterpillar that feeds on poison
during metamorphosis, I was raised in the dangerous world of cartel crime. But
nothing could’ve prepared me for Cristiano de la Rosa, his brother’s poison, or the Calavera cartel.

This is still a story about a love strong enough to topple households, unite
enemies, and divide brothers. Resilient enough to bring down those who would
try to destroy it . . . and selfless enough to make the ultimate sacrifice.

But I was warned, and so were you. Death’s day always comes. This time, it will
find what was once a caterpillar is now a butterfly—and hell hath no fury like
the White Monarch.

COLD HEARTED BASTARD

By Logan

Release Date: Nov. 11th, 2019

Firefighter Romantic Comedy

Blurb:

Five Things. That’s the title of the video I’m watching. Each day, a social
media coordinator picks a fireman from the Hightower Hills Fire Department
to interview, and she asks him ‘five things’ about himself that the
community may not know. I keep rewinding back to the man of my
desire—Corbin Carmack.

If you ask me five things about myself that people may not know, it would
go a little something like this:

1. I love a man with brown eyes.

2. I’ve never wanted a stranger as much as I do him.

3. I’m going to extremes that could get me tossed in jail just to steal
glimpses of him.

4. For the last two months I’ve blown off friends, family, and everything
in between just to stay up late at night and watch this video as I pleasure
myself to sleep.

5. I set my house on fire to meet him.

In my defense, I never meant for there to be so much smoke. And I never
meant to pass out before my firefighter hero could save me.

But, looks can be deceiving, and this firefighter is nothing like he
portrays on social media. In fact, he’s much worse. He’s a cold-hearted
bastard and I hope I never have to see him again.

But I do.

Because now he seems to appear everywhere I go. And I can’t get enough.

Reese

I’m done.

Getting ditched at the altar is nothing compared to being humiliated there in front of three hundred shocked guests. Apparently I’m no good at spotting the signs your man’s a cheating liar. So I set off solo on my honeymoon to Hawaii, where I realize I’ve got this life thing down just fine on my own.

Friendships and laughter? Yes.

Adventures? Absolutely.

But relationships? Hell no. Never again.

Knox

I’m a man of few words. My reputation as a moody prick is deserved, but only the handful of people who really know me see the man beneath the professional mask.

I’m a protector. A warrior. That part is true. But the world doesn’t get to see the rest of me. And women don’t seem to mind my gruff exterior—my bed’s always warm.

I’m content with life—loving it, even—or so I thought. But when I meet a beautiful pastry chef with a broken heart and a smile that softens me down to my soul, I realize I wasn’t really content at all before her.

I only wish I had the words to let her know.

EXCERPT:

Mrs. Eric Darnell. I’ve practiced saying it and writing it, but it still doesn’t feel real. There’s a part of me that’s still scared, but this is the right thing. After nine years together, where else can our relationship go?

At the sound of a sniffle, I turn to my maid of honor, my best friend Mandy, who’s already crying. I never knew her to be a softie. The ceremony hasn’t really even started yet. She takes a tissue out from around her bouquet and wipes the corners of her eyes.

“Before we begin the ceremony, let us pray,” the pastor says.

“Hang on,” Eric blurts out.

Did he just say hang on as our wedding ceremony was about to start? My heart skips several beats as I look around to see what’s going on. Is there a medical emergency? Why else would Eric go off script?

The pastor and I both stare at him as he closes his eyes and grimaces.

“I’m sorry,” he says, sighing as he opens his eyes and lets go of my hands.

As my hands drop to my sides, an icy shiver zips down my spine. He let go. I only asked him for one thing when we talked on the phone this morning, honoring the tradition of not seeing each other on our wedding day. Hold onto my hands the entire time.

The church is still, everyone seeming to hold their breath as they wait for Eric to speak. My heart races and my hands start to shake as I realize something’s not right here. There’s no medical emergency.

“Reese.” Eric’s tone is both apologetic and pleading. “I need to tell you something. I want to go into this marriage with a clean conscience.”

I swallow back the bile that rises in my throat. This can’t be happening. In all my worst-case scenarios about what could go wrong on my wedding day, I never imagined this.

I worried I’d be having a heavy period today. That I’d trip on my way down the aisle and face plant in front of everyone. Or that the last week of stress eating would catch up with me and my dress wouldn’t zip up.

But this? Never this.

Eric lets out a shaky breath and says, “Please forgive me. I did something so stupid.”

Mandy’s crying intensifies. I feel like I could pass out at any second.

“Uh…” the pastor looks between me and Eric. “Do you two want to step out for a moment?”

“What did you do?” I ask Eric, my voice nearly a whisper.

The sound and scent of the ocean has vanished. I can only feel my racing heart and a creeping sense of complete dread.

“So now it was stupid?” Mandy demands loudly. “Eight months together and you’re saying it was a mistake?”

The guests collectively gasp.

As it sets in, I’m too stunned to even breathe. Eric. Fucked. Mandy. A lot.

My bouquet falls to the ground, making a whooshing sound as it hits. My breathing is more of a pant now, an angry, breathy pant with a growl now surfacing.
