Synopsis

Forecast: (noun)

A calculation or estimate of future events, especially coming weather.
See also: Liam “I’m Always Right” Wright.

Not your typical Daddy. Not your typical boy.
Not your typical fake relationship.

Hudson Madden looks like the kind of guy you don’t want to piss off—he’s a walking wall of muscle, brightly tatted ink up both arms, and low grunts. But underneath it all, he’s a gentle giant. One who can’t find what he wants because of the assumptions people make:

He must be an alpha.
He must be a dominant Daddy.
He must be looking for a sweet, passive boy.

The truth is more complicated. Haunted by memories of a former lover, and interested in exploring types of sex that aren’t easily defined, Hudson is happy to harbour his innocent crush on the local weatherman.

Until said weatherman crush walks into Hudson’s gym and turns his life upside down.

Liam “I’m Always Right” Wright. It might be a cute catchphrase, but when it comes to love, Liam is always wrong.

Liam hasn’t got time for love. He’s got his sights set on the big time, becoming a prime time meteorologist on a major national TV station. He’ll do anything it takes to get the promotion, even if it means entering into a fake relationship to improve his chances.

A quick-fix, no-mess solution.

So why does it feel so right when Hudson looks at him, spends time with him, and gets to know him in a way that no one ever has?

Will Hudson be able to break down his walls and let Liam in? And when forced to choose between his career and love, will Liam be able to make the right choice?

Excerpt

“Hello?”

My ears pricked up at the familiarity of that voice.

I snapped my head around and there he was, not on all eight TV screens as I was used to seeing him, but just one person standing right in front of me, on the other side of my front desk.

Liam “Am I Seeing This Right?” Wright.

“Oh, hey, look, Hudson, it’s that guy you always make us turn every TV screen over to wa—”

My elbow found Zander’s side, and thankfully, that just so happened to be where his shut the fuck up button was located.

“Hello,” I said in as normal a voice as I could muster.

What the hell was happening here? How was it that Liam Wright was standing right in front of me, looking all sorts of weatherman-gorgeous? He must have come directly from the studio, because he was wearing the same outfit he’d had on earlier in the evening.

Suddenly, I wished that the counter wasn’t so high so that I could look down and get a better view of his amazing…

I snapped myself out of that inappropriate, unprofessional thought by saying, “How—how can I help you?”

I tried to smile. I think I might have been smiling. I couldn’t tell. I couldn’t feel my face, or my feet, or my hands, anymore.

This was precisely the reason why I had avoided approaching him six times before. I was turning to mush.

“I’d like to join the gym,” he said. His voice just sounded so familiar, which I guess made sense, since I’d been hearing it every day on the news for the last eighteen months. “Oh, and I’ll need a personal trainer as well.”

Was it possible to be both floored and speechless at the same time? The answer to that question was a resounding hell yes. Trust me, it was coming from a guy who was on the floor, unable to speak.

“We can definitely arrange that,” I said after a much-too-long silence. My eyes were glued to him as my hand tapped around the counter, desperately searching for the paperwork and a pen.

“Here you go,” I said, once I had finally found them. I looked down and was surprised to see my hands trembling. I quickly pulled them back and placed them firmly on the counter.

Why the hell was I shaking?

I mean, I had seen the guy in the flesh six times before. Although now that I thought about it, every time I had seen him, I’d started to shake and feel a little light-headed. I’d just assumed that was because Porter was around, and he tended to have a mildly nauseating effect on people.

“Do you have a trainer available? I’d like to start as soon as possible. Preferably tomorrow morning, please,” Liam said as he looked up from the paperwork he was filling out.

“Yes, of course,” I said, and then my brain left my head because the next words out of my mouth were, “My name is Hudson Madden. I’m the owner of Elite Fitness, and I would love to turn you on…”

Shitty shit, shit, shit!

I cleared my throat. “Take you on.”

Review:

Forecast (99 Daddies, #3)Forecast by Casey Cox

“An Emotionally Healing Unique Love Story”

A breathtakingly beautiful, deeply thought-provoking emotional story, with gut-wrenching moments of love, loss and acceptance, uniquely fused together with the nurturing warmth of a very light daddy/boy kink and the need of overall acceptance.  Wow.  This upcoming story rocked me and certainly took me through the ringer that is for sure.  And, I did not see it coming.  At all.  Having read from this series before, it would be a given that I was going to enjoy future stories, as the characters have been fabulous and the storylines addicting with that hint of daddy/boy kink.  But, that doesn’t mean I was prepared for this one.  For this, I went into it blindly, and, boy, was I blown away.

Forecast, by Casey Cox, is a story basically about not judging a book by its cover.  With this mindset, readers are taken through a highly-emotional journey of Hudson, a strongly dedicated, compassionate, beautifully inked individual, deeply mourning the passing of his former love, and that of Liam, a masked, passionate individual, equally in mourning of the passing of his own twin brother.  Together, both men bravely battle pre-conceived public notions to that of their true identity. This story was deep, it was heartbreaking, it was soul searching.  It was amazing.  I absolutely loved it.

Forecast does contain triggers of death and off-page suicide with tender healing recollections, and it was tastefully done.  One of the ways was through the wonderful secondary characters who make frequent cameos and through this, readers are able to be bear witness to the stages of grief but also to the stages of acceptance, healing, and also to that of living.

However.  It is in this reader’s opinion that, there were also moments when there was a need for more story and character development, depth, and clarification.  As this was a unique relationship, a needed one for both Hudson and Liam, I needed to know more of its distinction.  In order to be completely connected and immersed within its uniqueness, I needed to be able to read about it rather than read of it.  It is also in this reader’s opinion that, the amount of deep philosophical inclusion, and a bit of redundancy, while extremely interesting and relevant, took away from the actual pace and development of the core of the plot.  For that, my head began to spin late in the story with a need for a smoother conclusion.

That all being delicately said, I absolutely LOVED this story.  I loved the storyline, the characters, the humor, and the dedication of the brotherhood.  With the extremely light daddy/boy kink, Forecast is a story about acceptance, about love, and, about being at peace with who you are right down to your differences and lifestyle.  I really, really liked it. 🙂

Prologue

CARTER

Present Day

History never repeats itself.

That’s a motherfucking lie.

It’s also the motherfucking truth.

It all depends on your perspective.

“Holy shit, Carter. It’s like déjà vu.” My best friend Gus Reynolds stood next to me, slack-jawed. “It’s like seeing you play here for the first time all those years ago.”

Gus owned The Mission, Seattle’s most enduring and iconic live music venue. We were watching my son Zane shred through one of the most intricate yet nuanced guitar solos I’d ever heard. Lost in the music, his face contorted with each note. Expressions mirroring the emotions he squeezed out of his instrument.

Bliss.

Rage.

Sorrow.

How I loved my son.

How I’d let him down.

Too many times to count.

Now, Zane’s band, Less Than Zero—or LTZ as they were more affectionately referred to—was poised to steal my band Limelight’s rock-and-roll crown. At least, if I had anything to say about it. “Yeah, they’re good,” I finally answered Gus. Little had changed in the twenty-plus years since Limelight had played the same sticky stage. The club was perpetually dank and dark and smelled of old beer and Pine-Sol.

My neutral observation masked my total and utter excitement. The kids on stage were poised for true greatness. I felt it in my bones. The energy throughout the club was electrified. Intense. Every single person here tonight knew they were witnessing something special.

My son’s mop of dark, unruly hair hid his infectious grin and dark-brown eyes while he bounced all over the stage. A natural performer, he engaged everyone in the crowd. Drew them in. He’d learned from the best—me, but somehow for him it was effortless. At an early age his mother Lianne and I realized he was a musical savant. Tonight, I was in awe, just as I had been from the day and hour he was born.

His other band members were spectacularly talented too. Lead singer Tyson Rainier had been Zane’s best friend from the time he’d moved back in with me at age sixteen. They’d bonded over their love of guitar, but Ty’s voice was like the second coming of Chris Cornell mixed with Geoff Tate and a little Johnny Cash in between. Ty was practically homeless when Zane first brought him over to our house. After hearing him sing just once, I took it upon myself to secretly ensure he had proper training. Like Zane, Ty was a musical unicorn, he’d deserved my investment.

Rounding out the band were bassist Conner McLoughlin and drummer Jace Deveraux, who played the Seattle college circuit for years. They also had my stamp of approval. Solid, hardworking and talented, the duo provided a steady backdrop to showcase the two virtuosos in the band.

Gus handed me a Diet Coke. “What did your management office say?”

“They’re in.” I took a sip, simultaneously wishing it were a beer and lamenting I’d never have a taste of the hoppy beverage ever again. “I’m having this show recorded to send over for final vetting. The social numbers are out of this world. There shouldn’t be a problem.”

A tiny, dark-haired pixie came up behind us. “Dad, let me settle the show on my own tonight. I won’t ever be able to take over this place if you don’t let me handle some of this stuff.”

“Fine, Fiona.” Gus booped his daughter on the nose, causing her to wrinkle it in protest. “If you want to fuck around with Zane’s ego, offer to settle up with Ty.”

I laughed. Fiona rolled her eyes and resumed her position behind the bar.

Zane had become the de facto business manager of the band. Ty was too shy, he really only came alive on stage. Connor was distracted by family stuff. Jace had his hands full with LTZ’s social media. Leaving my son, man of little attention span, to handle the money. Surprisingly, he took the job very seriously. And, like everything else he put his mind to, he knocked it out of the park.

He’d shit a brick to have Fiona in a room alone for ten minutes. She was a few months older, but they’d been playmates since they were born. Throughout high school and into adulthood, Zane had an unrequited crush on the gorgeous girl who was like a daughter to me. She’d been very careful not to lead him on, but he was determined to win her heart.

Luckily, I’d set up a six-month tour for the band. None of these guys needed the distraction of a girlfriend when their career was just getting started.

I was living proof.

LTZ started one of their newer songs, a slow, sultry groove. Ty stood at the front of the stage like he owned it, scanning the crowd. His duct-taped Doc Martin tapped the beat. His eyes fixated on something in the crowd and in an instant, his entire demeanor changed. Almost like he’d been struck by lightning. The expression on his face was dreamy when his eyes locked on someone close to the stage.

I made a move from the back of the club, wanting to see who caught Ty’s eye. Down in front were two young blonde girls, the shorter girl with loads of wild hair seemed to be the object of his fascination. She looked like a deer in headlights when Ty made eye contact with her. Ty was a very good-looking dude, which was another reason he made such a compelling front man. Many girls tried to get his attention, but his focus was on the band. Survival. Getting his life on track. He never took the bait.

Until now.

Moving stealthily closer, I dodged a couple of fans and kept an eye on Ty and the girl throughout the rest of the show. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. She couldn’t take her eyes off him, though she was more demure about it. After the show, I observed Ty approach her and have an awkward interaction. It didn’t surprise me, seeking out a young lady was unprecedented for LTZ’s singer. When he disappeared with her moments later?

Also unprecedented.

Unacceptable.

The last thing any of the guys in LTZ needed were distractions, especially Ty. Connor was already practically married, though I didn’t foresee that relationship lasting long. Jace had no interest in a girlfriend, only a good time. His crush on Fiona aside, my son was a horndog who’d never shown interest in a longer-term relationship.

Which was good.

Over the next few months, the guys were recording their first album then going on tour. With a distribution deal, my management team behind them and social media numbers that grew stronger every day?

LTZ was poised to be the biggest band out of Seattle since Limelight.

Fuck, yeah.

Even though I was barely past forty, I made the guys suffer through my endless old-man lectures about keeping their cocks wrapped up, so I wasn’t worried about mistakes or diseases. Tonight, I was more concerned about my pseudo-son Ty’s fragile heart. After the considerable personal currency—both financial and industry—I’d put into LTZ, there was no way I’d allow the band to be derailed by some girl trying to get her hooks into one of them.

I’d already been there and done that.

With disastrous results.

Motherfucking history would not repeat itself in this case.

BLURB

From the moment the man walked into the bar, I knew he was still in the closet. But that didn’t stop us from sharing an incredible night together.
Our easy, one-night hookup went from no-strings-attached to a tangled mess on the first day of the semester, when I locked eyes with the mystery man from the bar… who also happens to be my new Art History professor.
Lucas Mathiasson is everywhere I turn and the harder we try to resist, the closer we’re pulled together. Until our weekend in Vegas. Then all bets – and rules – are off.
But lessons in love can’t be taught from a syllabus. They have to be experienced.
And not all love is easy. Not all rules are meant to be broken. And not all men are created to live life in the open.
Falling for my professor wasn’t part of the plan… but how do you let go of the man who taught you how to love?

Change of Course (Change of Hearts #3)Change of Course by Sierra Hill

“A Sexy, Exciting, Addicting Love Story”

A scintillating, sexy, emotional story about a closeted, slightly stringent professor and a highly-talented, outgoing sweet student artist, both of which have similar yet very different kinds of emotional baggage.  With the dips and dabs of a daddy/boy kink, meddling family member(s) and moments when I could not cheer loud enough, I loved this story.  The stunning interconnectedness between multiple forms of Art to that of Love and Life, within these characters, was absolutely incredible.  It is always such a mind-blowing experience to be able to read stories such as this one, stories with some sort of hidden meaning, as it always makes my head deliciously spin.  Clearly, Change of Course, by Sierra Hill, is such a great story.

Needy desperation proves to be just too much for two men attempting to grow from painful pasts, despite being lead by heated electrical moments.  Tempting Fate, and yet unable to let go, each helps the other, serving as pillars of strength for straight-to-the-gut eye opening moments, and for more reasons than none.  Words came off the pages as heated missiles, for this reader, as each chapter took me under its spell with addicting and thoroughly emotional moments.

There were also wonderful secondary characters, many of whom already have their own stories within the Change of Hearts series.  Gut-wrenching and heartwarming stories await this reader as their inclusion within this particular story was enough of an enticement for more of this series.

That all being said, however, with such a great storyline, I needed more character background and development, as I thought there was the unknown from some of their background, as well as an ending that felt a bit rushed and needed a bit more.  In addition, it is also in this reader’s opinion that there is a need for more editing as there are currently typos and a general overall need for more editing.  All-in-all, Change of Course is a fabulous story.  I really liked it. 🙂

EXCERPT

I lean over the edge, my belly and hip scraping over the marbled counter, and push my mouth next to his ear. Oh man, he smells incredible. A crisp soapy scent mixed with expensive cologne. Probably French. Definitely not the cheap over-the-counter shit I usually get lungful’s of in this place on any given night.
Nah, this man is high class and far too above the fray in here.
Which means I can’t help but find a way to fluster the shit out of him.
“You know, if you want it even dirtier, I can do that for you. I’m really good at making it dirty.”
I slink back off the counter, tucking the edge of my shirt back down where it had risen over my belly, showing off my sleek abs and skin. I lick my lips enticingly and step back. Apparently, Mr. Put-Together got a nice view of my stomach before I covered it back up because I notice the twitch of his fingers and the tightening of his jaw.
Without meaning to, I burst out laughing, waving my hand in the air at him. “Oh my God, dude. You should see yourself right now. Did I just insult your tender sensibilities with my innuendo?”
In a flash, he jerks his shoulders back with righteous indignation.
“No,” he scoffs, rolling his eyes. “I was just trying to figure out if you meant the drink or something else.”
Once again, I bend over the counter, my elbows pinched tight to my ribs, hands clasped in front of me, and give him an innocent lift of my eyebrow.
“I guess if you don’t know, then you don’t want what I have to offer.”

Luka

Luka settled cross-legged on the hearth with a murmured word of gratitude to the fire as its warmth surrounded him. Keeping a veiled eye on the woodpile, he crumbled a crust of bread and honey onto the stones. The animals had grown skittish of late, and he missed their company on his long tramps through the forest. The cabin had grown lonely without Rhys’s vibrant presence.

The thoughts of his lover sent his gaze to the small stack of books he kept close at hand to leaf through during the long empty nights. He’d rescued the young man from a brutish existence at the hands of a madman, and the stories were all that would ease his frantic, tortured mind. Rhys would sit close to Luka while Luka read the heroic tales until his head would nod, and he’d slump into Luka’s arms, a warm, living presence in his solitary life.

Luka raised his head, attentive. Winter gathered outside the latched door, wind howling through the trees, sending their limbs scratching along the roof. A shiver traveled up his spine. Something darker than the storm was coming.

The fire snapped in a shower of sparks, recalling his attention. He drew a small bundle of twigs from a pocket, cupped it in his worn, nut-brown hands, and breathed in the scent of juniper and sage. Chanting the words his mother had taught him long ago, he tossed the clump into the flames. A tendril of smoke rose, twirled in lazy circles in the air and brushed against his face.

He breathed deeply, holding in his lungs the heady smoke of the sage and grasses he’d gathered by the stream last autumn. His thoughts cleared. He saw everything! Snow whipped through the darkness between the trees, carried on the fierce wind. His beloved animals huddled in the scrub brush for safety and warmth. The village beyond the forest barred its doors, fires lit, safe inside while the storm raged.

His thoughts soared, bursting into the moonlit landscape above the clouds. Laughing aloud, his spirit flew in wonder, heart aching at the beauty of the night. But something tugged at his heart, his name shouted on the wind. He blinked at tears, bringing the fire back into focus, the cabin solid around him. Night pressed on the shuttered windows. Something was in the night…

Luka’s heart leaped. He comes! A soft cry of joy escaped him, and he rose in one fluid motion to his feet. He’d sent Rhys away to find love elsewhere than in the arms of a lonely witch, and yet he came, daring the storm.

“Come to me,” he urged the solitary figure in his mind’s eye, struggling up the path to reach him. A tremor seized him. Long years of bartering his herbs and potions to the villagers had passed while he waited with hope and dread for Rhys’s return, darkness at his heels.

He crossed the wooden floor of the cabin, logs he’d hewn and planed himself, lighting the candles with a word as he passed, filling the room with light. Luka paused at the door, hand hesitant on the latch. He had enemies beyond this safe threshold. What if Rhys had gone to them in his bitterness and returned now for revenge? Luka closed his eyes, seeing again the pain on Rhys’s youthful face, the confusion in his eyes when Luka told him to go, and closed the door on his anguished pleas.

A rap on the door sent his pulse racing. Love and doubt warred inside him, but he had to know, see the truth of it. He opened the door a crack; icy wind whistled in. A figure stood on his step, the heavy cloak clutched against the cold obscuring his features. Who was this? He swung the door wider. The energy was all wrong. But Luka would welcome him in whatever guise he wore.

He opened his hungry arms, but Rhys shook his head and looked up, candlelight spilling on his pale face, grown older. “You sent me away—brokenhearted.” Rhys’s voice was deeper than he remembered. “If I cross this threshold, I won’t leave again. Be very sure.”

Luka trembled, searching the beloved features, and mourned the sweet innocence that was missing. Snow sifted through the trees adding to the weight on Rhys’s shoulders, and Luka swallowed his doubts. “Come inside.” He tugged on Rhys’s sleeve, unable to mask his eagerness. His heart stumbled, then leaped, seeing a flash of elation in Rhys’s eyes.

Rhys stepped into the cottage in a flurry of cold air and snow, and Luka hastily closed and latched the door behind him. He turned, and his lips parted in a startled gasp. Rhys had removed his cloak, snow already melting on the warm floor. His golden hair fell loosely to his shoulders, and his body filled out the tunic and trousers he wore in a way it hadn’t five years ago. He had grown into a handsome man, the fine wool of his clothing attesting he’d done well in the village.

Suddenly conscious of his frayed sleeves and ink-stained fingers, the silver now threading his dark braid of hair, Luka glanced away. His gaze fell on the books and parchment littering every surface, candle wax spilled on the tabletops. A thick layer of dust covered the bookshelves, except for the volumes he used for reference. He chewed a lip, troubled.

“Come to the fire,” he offered, taking Rhys’s cloak to hang on a peg. “There’s a stew simmering on the hearth.”

Rhys touched his shoulder, halting him. “A moment. I’ve come to warn you. Your old enemy—”

“Is coming. This I know. We’ll talk of it later. Please, come to the fire. You must be cold.”

“Luka.”

Luka swiveled sharply at the command in Rhys’s voice, a thrill rushing through him. So much courage from his once timid lover. Was this the same man he’d rescued? The young lad of seventeen years, chained and beaten in a dank cellar? Rhys wouldn’t speak of his parents back then, saying only he’d lived on the charity of others—until he’d been snared, captive to a cruel man’s dark appetites.

Rhys’s soul had cried out in anguish from his prison, finding Luka’s heart, drawing him deep into the forest to the monster’s isolated hut. Luka had eluded the dark sorcerer, freeing the lad and taking him into his home. And later, into his bed, a moth to Rhys’s bright flame, his heart opened for the first time in uncounted years to love and promise.

Excerpt From Mr. Mystery by Lana Kole

Jason swallowed back his curse and waited as patiently as one could while color floated around him as everyone retrieved their shots and fresh drinks. It seemed like ages, and a ton of empty congratulations from faceless people, before he reached the bar.

He ended up beside a flashy guy in a maroon suit. It cupped his ass nicely, and Jason gave him a second glance. A martini glass sat in front of him, and the man tilted his head back with his shot. The bartender eyed Jason once, saw the direction of his gaze, and skedaddled to the end of the bar.

When Red sat the shot glass back down, his head turned left and right before he paused in the direction of the bartender. His shoulders slumped, and Jason sidled up to him.

“L, guess you’re right. You are the one getting lucky tonight. Hope he’s Mr. Right,” he growled just loud enough for Jason to hear him as the song changed.

“Who’s Mr. Right?” he asked, leaning down.

A sparkling black mask turned in his direction. Behind the dripping effect that curved over his cheeks and nose, a pair of bright blue eyes peered at him.

“No one. That’s the problem,” he answered without missing a beat.

Jason chuckled. “A pessimist. A man after my own heart.”

“Give me a few more drinks and I’ll be as optimistic as anyone,” Red muttered.

As he tilted the martini glass back with lithe fingers, Jason got a look at the front of his suit. Or more specifically, the collar that wrapped around his throat and dipped beneath his black shirt.

Jason swallowed.

Holy hell. He’d never seen someone wear a harness like that so openly. So naturally.

He wanted to slide his index finger beneath the leather and his skin and feel his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed.

Maybe even around his cock.

Jason cleared his throat and motioned for the bartender. He needed a drink, quick. Jason wasn’t one to hook up, not usually. It was too risky and usually resulted in more trouble than it was worth.

But Red here? With that spicy little collar just begging to be played with?

He’d take a chance on it.

Two hot men seeking a fun, flirty girl with a sense of adventure. You in?

My life changed the day Zach Boston walked into it. And we’ve been inseparable best friends and lovers ever since. But he’s almost seven years younger than me and I remember all too well what my twenties were like – A new adventure every day, non-stop partying every night, and a new girl (or guy) whenever I got bored.

That’s why Zach and I always have a third.

Girls are how we’ve kept it fresh all year.

We’ve gone through dozens of them since we got serious and I’m not saying I don’t enjoy the dynamic of a threesome, because I do.

But when this cute girl with pink hair comes sailing into our lives and upends everything—I don’t know if we’ll survive it.

EXCERPT:

I’m studying the reef below me, trying my best to ignore what’s happening on the other side of the little waterfall lagoon with Luke, Zach, and Bart, but at the same time desperately trying to hear what they are all saying.

Bart is definitely coming on to Zach. And Luke is pissed.

Hell, I’m pissed. Zach is mine. He’s the only reason I’m here. I can deal with Luke. He could turn out to be a big, ol’ sexy bonus, even if he is kind of moody and distant.

But this Bart guy?

No. He was not part of my plan.

Suddenly Luke is below me in the water, his dark hair waving around his face, his finger pointing up.

I stop snorkeling and pull the mouthpiece out, then slide my mask up my face so I can see him better when he pops up in front of me. “What’s up?” I ask.

“We’re going to the party.” Luke nods his head in that direction. “Zach is already over there. With Bart.” He adds a little extra malice to the name Bart.

Luke’s eyes track over to the floating party platform where dozens of people are crowding. We both watch as Luke and Bart come to a stop in the shallows of the sandbar. Bart leaves his Seabob in the water and pushes Zach, making him stumble and laugh as they both wade their way towards the platform.

“Hmm,” I hum. Then I look at Luke. “Are we going to allow this?”

“We?”

“Hey, I wouldn’t be here if he didn’t want me here. And at least I’m on your side. Bart there, he’s just some random rich kid looking to get laid by the first shiny thing that catches his eye. Which would be Zach.”

Luke frowns at me. “You’re no different, Posie. Zach and I are partners. You’re his version of shiny. He’s with me.”

“He’s with Bart, Luke. And like I said, Zach wants me here. So looks like you need a little help in holding onto your man. I’m offering to be that help.”

Wow. I’m not really sure where that came from, but I like it. It’s gonna be a good quote for the article. One of those big ones in the middle of a wall of text. The kind with ginormous quotation marks framing it.

Anyway. Back to reality.

“But,” I continue, “I can just as easily stay on the yacht until we’re ready to go and you can handle things all by yourself, if that’s what you prefer.”

He glances over at Zach again. And Zach is laughing and smiling, like he’s completely unaware of the drama going on over here.

“I like him, Luke.”

Luke’s attention snaps back to me. “So? You’re no one, Posie. Just another girl we picked up in a club. Do you have any idea how many times we’ve done that? Dozens.”

“But I’m still here.”

“For today. Trust me, after we drop you off at home tonight, he’ll forget all about you and just start hunting down another girl.”

“To spice things up? Is he bored with you, Luke? Is this how you keep him?”

I’m pissing this guy off. It’s probably a bad idea. I’m hours away from the mainland, he’s like six-foot-three, almost twice my weight, and he’s my ride home. So it’s a very bad idea to pick this fight with him.

But he needs an ally. And I’m his only option. If I’m gonna position myself as a permanent fixture in Zach Boston’s life I need to jump the hurdle called Luke first.

And this stupid Bart guy is the perfect way to unite us so I can make that leap.

“You have no idea what you’re talking about. Zach and I have a lot more between us than sex. Our families are connected. Our business is connected. There are bigger things on our minds than who we’re sleeping with. This is just Zach being Zach. It’s just a game. But trust me, when it comes time to go home, he leaves with me, Posie.” He pauses. Then points his finger at me. “And I’m on to you.”

I scoff. “Whatever.”

“I see you, Posie. I have seen plenty of girls like you over the past year. You all think Zach is a prize to win. And don’t bother playing dumb. You know his last name is Boston. That’s the only reason you’re here, isn’t it?”

For a moment I panic, thinking Luke knows who I really am. He knows about the contract I have with Buzz Hollywood. He’s figured it out.

But then he says, “You’re looking for status. Money. You want to party with him, and get your picture taken, and use him to get something better. Climb some ladder you don’t have access to. Discard your boring, pathetic life and reinvent yourself a new one.”

“Wow,” I say. “You get mean when you’re jealous.”

“I’m not jealous.”

“Stop it, OK? I’m not here to steal him from you. I just like him. And I like you too. Enough to share. And isn’t that what he and you do? Hm? Share?”

Luke doesn’t react. Like at all. So I keep going.

“If we team up, then Bart doesn’t have a chance. Zach likes you, Zach likes me. He has a life with you—as you pointed out—and I’m the new flavor of the week. One he’s barely had a chance to taste. He wants us. We don’t need to fight over this. Yet.”

I pause to see if he’ll say anything about that. But he holds his words in, so I finish.

“We need to get him out of here. Because Bart over there?” I nod my head towards the crowd. “He lives in Zach’s world. Not ours. He’s one of the ruling class. You don’t need to talk to him to figure that out. He’s dripping with privilege. Just like Zach. They are of the same kind. And maybe Zach does love you, but this is his world, Luke. He’s not Zach, one half of your yacht charter service. He’s a Boston. He belongs here in this exclusive, secret pop-up party for the rich and bored—and we don’t.”

Luke lets out a long breath. Like he was holding it in while I talked. He’s gently waving his arms in the water. And I can feel the slight current his flippers make as we tread water in the middle of this beautiful waterfall cove.

He knows I’m right. Luke has a precarious hold on Zach Boston for now. But for how much longer?

They don’t have much time left by the looks of it. I’m no expert in relationships but I’ve been in enough of them to see the signs of one winding down. The bond between Luke and Zach is based on a lot of things—but it’s not love.

Mutual attraction, sure.

Family ties and all that business junk. Fine.

But that’s not eternal partner type stuff.

So all I have to do is hang around long enough to watch it break and then be there when Zach needs somewhere to turn.

Wow. I’m sorta ruthless when I’m focused.

Who knew?

Forecast by Casey Cox (Arc) Review!

An against-all-odds & forbidden rockstar romance

After surviving the long and excruciating recruitment process, I thought I would end up working for Madonna or the CIA at the very least.
Boy, was I wrong.

Even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have imagined what I was in for. What my heart was in for.

I couldn’t have possibly fathomed the lifestyle, the responsibility, how much it would take out of me, the inner battles, and mostly, the emotional whirlwind.
I could never have imagined, prepared myself for, or anticipated…

Him.

It was supposed to be a job. Just a temporary job. Just a few months. Just a short stop before the journey I was about to take to follow my dream.

It was supposed to be a lot of things…but not this.
Little did I know it would be the one event that would shape me, would change me, would bring on such a shift in the balance of my world.
Would bring…

Him.

Would bring…

Them.
Both.
Into my life.

EXCERPT:

I hold one of the monstrous fridge doors open, taking inventory of the profusion of goods on display. I twitch my lips, moving them from side to side, as I muse what can best serve as a natural sedative. I stoop slightly forward for the carton and stop dead. More precisely, I find myself being stopped by an iron grip. Instinctively, I suck in a breath as a firm arm slides to wrap around my waist. A warm, hard body presses against me in tandem to someone’s lips nuzzling me right below my ear. A momentary stupor enfolds me as a few things register concurrently. The prickly feel of the scruff on my neck, and the smell hovering near that is a mixture of part masculine, part alcohol. Heavy alcohol. The most tantalizing fact, though, would have to be that the body pressed against my back is very much naked, as I can distinctively feel every part of the firm torso through my thin, cotton tee.

Still utterly startled, I chance a hesitant glance at the strong arm embracing me. Suntanned and large, it could be easily mistaken for a canvas crowded with colorful, detailed illustrations. The other hand, the one not holding me firmly, is another art creation in the form of a human limb extended toward the OJ carton.

“Open that for me, babe,” a raspy, low voice demands. And I do. The carton is lifted above my shoulder, and right after a pause, it is set in my stunned hand. Lightly moist, cold lips, bordered by a prickly beard, kiss my neck next. “Come back to bed, babe,” says the utterly seductive voice. A light smack on the butt jolts me, and I’m left by myself. My heart is beating in my ears, and my lips part in shock. I swallow hard and slowly turn to see who just groped-spanked me. There’s so much to take in. The lion’s head tattoo covering the right shin, the dark hair messily knotted, the toned arms, the musical notes tattooed on the left shoulder blade. But one thing calls for my full attention. A delectable, as in an award-winning, butt.

Fake the Date by Ana Byrde (Arc) Review!

Fake the Date (#Love Wins)Fake the Date by Ana Byrde

“A Heartwarming, Adorable, First-Time Love Story”

A beautifully heartwarming, friends-to-lovers, gfy story with heartbreaking yet empowering low angst moments with sweet, adorable and addicting main characters, two legged and four, and mostly well-meaning and challenging secondary characters, caught my attention as a new hopeful story about first love.

I really enjoyed Fake the Date, by Ana Byrde, as it contained an underlying heartbreaking yet gorgeous storyline, about being true to oneself within the support and embracing love of friends and family members.  It was uplifting and very rewarding to be able to actually read and understand most of the startling emotions emanating from a few of the characters as the need to come out made itself known for many brave individuals.

With such a wonderful storyline, I felt the plot was somehow oddly varied, with a meandering direction, that with the confusion of much of its purpose, was in the end pleasantly addicting as well.  While I found myself loving most of it, there were times when I had wished for more background, development, and a whole lot of editing, as the word choice, at times, just did not fit within the particular context.

Overall, I really enjoyed Fake the Date with its sweetly adorable revelations and a newly found protective nature, main characters, Ben and Evan, were such a pleasure to read.  With its varied plot and secondary characters, it all collectively had this reader eager for their HEA as their story was certainly a wonderful read.  I really liked it. 🙂

Teaser 1

Release Blitz Excerpt:

This. Is. Bad.

I flick through photo after photo of perfection.

And I hate to say it, but Rowan makes me look good. The tats, the unruly hair, the confidence in how he holds himself.

He’s come a long way since high school.

Back then he was guarded and scared, and the only place he looked like he owned his skin was on the football field. Still, he always caught my eye. Always drew out that curious side of me that was attracted to what I didn’t know.

The first time I went to his house after school, I remember overhearing his dad asking who the little pretty boy was. And I knew by his tone what he was really asking.

First: is that kid gay?

Second: what the fuck is he doing with my son?

I was never a favorite around his place, especially when his grandparents were there, so we spent as much time at my house, or wandering Crown Trails, as we could.

And as I pause over the photo of Rowan kissing my nose, an irrational surge of anger passes through me.

I was there, for years, in the secret, stolen moments of his life. I was the only one who knew his secret, and the only one who didn’t push for him to figure himself out.

All I did was wait.

Show him it was okay.

And that night, five years ago, when he finally kissed me and we gave into a year of sexual tension, I kissed him like we meant forever.

I had no idea forever would last all of five minutes.
