WHISPERED PRAYERS OF A GIRL by Alex Grayson

Book Blurb:

A tortured soul meets a damaged family…
A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl… Can the four come together and help heal each other? Or will fear of the unknown and guilt about the past keep them apart?

Her whispered prayers break her…
At night, as she’s drifting off to sleep, I press my ear to the door and listen to her heart-wrenching pleas. Her words are agony to my healing heart, but I cherish the sound of them, for that’s the only time I ever hear my beautiful daughter speak. Since her father died two years ago, she’s grown quiet and withdrawn. Cat’s Valley was to be our new beginning, a place where my family and I can heal, but what we find there is so much more.

Scars mar his body. Pain has left him in pieces…
Four years ago, I lost the two things I cherished most in the world. They were ripped from my arms in the most painful and cruel way. Since then, I’ve kept to myself, preferring to stay away from the pitying looks and murmured rumors. Everything changed when she and her children barged into my life. It was an accident, and I don’t deserve them, but now that they’re here, I’m not sure I can let them go.

Whispered Prayers of a GirlWhispered Prayers of a Girl by Alex Grayson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Whispered Prayers of a Girl was graciously provided to me by the author for an honest review. I have voluntarily read this book and have provided my honest opinion.

A Gripping, Loving, and, Emotional Story

My most recent read was a deeply emotional story heavily laden with grief, guilt, sadness, and a soul-searing pain from the tragic loss of loved ones in different yet very similar ways. This uniquely multi-layered story brought out all of the feels for this reader as it depicts various individuals as they struggled with their own form of mourning as they made their way towards their own ray-of-light.  It had plentiful highs and an over abundance of lows that made up an incredibly gripping story of love and survival that had me loving my most recent read.

I was drawn to, Whispered Prayers of a Girl, by Alex Grayson, for many different reasons. Its cover and model drew me in and the blurb had quickly sealed the deal.  Its storyline is a beautifully unique one, one in which successfully interweaves its main and sub-plots together, and, as mentioned briefly, right off the bat put me through the wringer with its heart-breaking, gripping, and, tearful moments, that eventually had me needing to take a step back, while at the same time needing me to continue reading.  There were many reasons why I was glued to this story, heart-breaking as it was.  The top reason was..Alexander.  I needed to sit right next to him as he bravely and desperately sought out his light.  I was drawn to his inert desire and need to protect and his ability to love above all else.  I loved the needed emotional connection between Alexander and Kelsey and felt these linking moments to be deeply moving and beautiful.  I will also say that I was dangerously close to dehydration as a result of shedding copious amounts of tears as a result of the breathable sense-of-light and the better sense-of-peace that had been obtained by Alexander and by Kelsey, as well as by the other characters who had been in mourning, regardless of the route taken.

There were many characters in this story, many of whom I loved and had found them to be absolutely wonderful, heroic, loving, dedicated, kind, and simply squishy-adorable.  I enjoyed seeing their dedication for the healing of Alexander and are to be considered to be golden-friends and family members.

With the existence of a highly-emotional storyline, one in which was clearly heavily infused with pain, regret and sorrow; consisting of a young man, through a self-imposed form of isolation, mourned the tragic loss of his family, was completely evident, it is this reader’s opinion, that the actual direction of the plot was a bit confusing as it lacked the necessary depth.  Despite the existence of a tremendous amount of pain for various reasons, that which had existed as part of this plot was only part of the main storyline and did leave this reader needing more development pertaining to the actual grief and healing.  In addition, as healing began, while relief was felt, I unfortunately didn’t completely feel that needed chemistry between the two main characters, but rather an almost desperate life preserver, kind-of-need, that needed more depth and development for that overall smoothness to the overall plot for a well-rounded storyline.

As a whole, regardless of the smattering of typos which had existed, I loved Whispered Prayers of a Girl, and had felt such immense pain, sorrow, and love for the characters as they had mourned their loved ones, but, especially for Alexander as he drudged his way through existence as he slowly created his strongly-sealed pocket of loving memories overflowing with heart-felt thoughts of his family and loved ones, as he held on to those who help him with his needed light and peace.  With this, I need to squeeze-hug him and those who had provided that security blanket type-of-protection as he continues to love and survive..:)
