My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Kind of Man (ARC) has been graciously provided to me by the author for an honest review.  I voluntarily read it and have provided my honest review.

“Through Comfort and Love Comes Peace..”

A warm, comfortable, soothing blanket on a cold winter’s night..is just the type of read I always am in the mood for, especially when the weather begins to turn cooler, and, well..it’s always a welcomed feeling to be able to snuggle up with a comforting good book.  As that love-of-warmth had recently invaded my being, I welcomed a new opportunity to read an upcoming new book from an author who I’ve read before and have thoroughly enjoyed, and, because of the chances being that this new book, would also be a good read, I jumped right in.  With an eagerness of another good book, I began reading a new book from JJ Harper, pen-name A.G. Silver.  As this author has written a new book containing a new daddy/little trope, I look forward to reading as it is one of my favorite tropes within one of my most favorite genres.  And…let’s not forget the obvious..the cover is absolutely beautiful, as it’s almost always one of the first things that catches a reader’s eye, that is for sure.  So, needlessly-to-say, I was greedily excited to start reading this book, especially since it is one of my favorite tropes within a super-favorite genre..

My Kind of Man, by A.G. Silver, is a gay romance with a daddy/little (age/play) lifestyle, with moments of D/s as well.  It is a story about two men desperately looking for that one person who would be able to complete them, one who would be able to understand their wants and desires for that peaceful and satisfying life.  Each having different kinds-of-desires, but both having that same one underneath their initial attraction as well.  I was immediately able to connect with Michael as a sweet, kind, and incredibly intelligent man, one who bravely sets out on a quest to locate The One.  The One who would be able to fill a multitude of hats.  On this journey, as hope slowly begins to fizzle for this courageous man, like honey to a bee..his eyes come upon..Callum.  Callum is an equally comfort-seeking man who is looking for that someone he’d be able to spread his nurture-seeking innate qualities with to the highest degree.  As each man comes upon quite possibly the answer to their deepest and necessary of desires, a tidal wave of emotions barrels through each of them..as hope begins to make its presence..

My Kind of Man, by A.G. Silver, a first from this author of this trope, is a deeply-filled story, one that is to be considered as a heart-warming, angst-filled, heart-breaking, emotional read, that despite this, was somewhat of a slow-burn for this reader due to some questionable and confusing areas.  It is, on the other hand, a story filled with love, soothing comfort, as well as a whole lot of sizzling times as well.  As it may not be for every reader, it is one that would be able to satisfy those who are looking for a story heavily laden with a daddy/little lifestyle with extra moments of D/s interlaced with a physical relationship as well.  It is a lengthy insta-love kind-of-story, and it does take the reader through a seemingly well-rounded relationship between these two men.

As mentioned briefly, I have always enjoyed stories containing this kind of trope, and, for this reason, found this story to be extremely welcoming and comforting as well, albeit a bit confusing, at times, due to the detailed and lengthy interlapping of the storyline as a whole.  I did, though, feel such love and relief for Michael as he had found ways to find the comfort and peace his soul had so very much needed and had desired.  I had equally felt such happiness for Callum as he ultimately had found such a wonderful, warm, and, perfect man after so many years of being in the lifestyle.  My emotions did wind up going through the gamut throughout this story, as I read through all of the ups and downs for these two good men.

That being said, I did, however, at times, also have a difficult time with the writing of this story.  As mentioned, it did contain many different avenues.  Individually, they’re all super great to read.  Interweaving all of them together..was a bit confusing to adequately distinguish each of them as well as collectively as part of a smoothly-written plot within a fabulous storyline.  There were times when it was a challenge to distinguish between the physical relationship and the lifestyle along with who actually was enjoying each moment.  It is also believed, in this readers opinion, that while there was a lot of depth to the plot, as a whole, there was also a need for more depth and development of not only the characters, but, also of the relationship between the two men and of all of the components as well.

One of the positive aspects of My Kind of Man, were the secondary characters.  They had such a great affect upon the storyline that they had this reader eagerly reading through difficult-to-read-moments just to be able to reach that answer to that surprising and joyous twist that had me screaming out-loud at all hours of the night..

Even though there were confusing glitches, a need for more of a distinction between the men and their lifestyles, and another round through the editing process, there were many times when I had actually cheered, wept, and felt such happiness and relief for both Michael and Callum, that as a whole, had enjoyed reading My Kind of Man, and, look forward to re-visiting this genre and trope again very soon..:)
