My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Dragons and Their Unicorn Omega (The Unicorn Omegas #1) was graciously provided to me by the author(s) for an honest review.

                             “Love Freely and Be Strong..”

What a gripping and intrinsically beautiful new book I have just had the pleasure in reading for the first time.  It’s quite amazing for a book to encompass all of these adjectives, but, alas, this one did.  I have come to love books which contain all different kinds of characters, ones who try to do their best in living their lives the best they could.  This latest book contains characters who do just that. The Dragons and Their Unicorn Omega, by Lorelei M. Hart and Ophelia Heart, is a story with dragons, unicorns, and all different types of animals who live in a world where its inhabitants extend themselves for those in need, whether it be for the aid of a neighbor or an acquaintance, they think nothing of it.  For them, it’s simply the thing to do.  That’s not to say that others don’t exist who would go about ways very differently.  Very, very differently.  Ways that are unheard of, ways that would be absolutely unthinkable for the norm.  This particular book has this type of fascinating and equally mesmerizing type of storyline, one which will grab a hold of the reader and not let them go until the very end..

When I was first presented with the opportunity to review a book containing dragons, I nearly fell off my chair.  True story.  So, upon discovering that it also contained one of my favorite sub-tropes as well, I immediately threw – in the white flag.  I had already surrendered to a great future read.  And..boy…it surely was. The Dragons and Their Unicorn Omega is a story with great meat to it, a story with good solid bones.  I loved the premise of it.  It’s one in which contains one of the mc’s having a troubled past, much as it was painful to read, but, it’s a stimulating premise to read as a whole.  As this particular character somehow reaches a stage in his struggling life where, “Enough is Enough,” is paramount, he gathers up the strength to escape, literally, and, in order to seek out a better and fulfilling life for himself to be able to live as he is, he heads for the hills, or, the mountains in this case.  Now, doesn’t that sound like something amazing to read?  You betcha’ it is..

The Dragons and Their Unicorn Omega grabbed me by the shoulders, and, kept a hold of me as I read, and, I immediately found myself trying not to quickly skim ahead just to find out what would happen at the end of a riveting moment.  I fell in love quickly with one of its mc’s, Grey, and just wanted to grab his hand and run fast and far away, with him, just so that he would be able to have a better life and leave his past behind him.  I adored this young unicorn.  I mean, come on!  A unicorn! *grinning widely*  As I read, I continued to be enraptured with the developing strength of Grey as he valiantly made the beginning steps of simply trying to live again..all the while running from a devious and dangerous type of dragon.  Fire-breathing dragons.  As Grey came across a soothing little town called Haven, I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, as of all the towns he could have come across, this one would have easily have been the one which would have brought him his ultimate peace..  Right?  Wrong.  This story is one that brought me down many twists and turns, right along with Grey, and, ultimately hand delivered me to something absolutely stunningly beautiful.  Beau-ti-ful.*sigh*

This is a story with great main characters (mc’s).  I really fell for them.  Ryder, a large alpha dragon, and, his mate Theo who is also a big alpha dragon.  I love stories with dragons because they are just breathtakingly beautiful creatures not only in flight, but also as they shift.  As Ryder and Theo are individually very rare types of dragons, adding to this their overall beauty, this collectively makes a stunning display of strength.  I loved the alpha-protective side of both of these dragons, which was draped like a warm blanket over the damaged unicorn, as Grey was this young unicorn who yearned and craved to not only please but to also be accepted within a sheltered and welcoming good family.  Gah.  The road Grey took with these strong and mighty dragons was not an easy one.  But, it was a road filled with discoveries, good, and, not-so-good individuals, and, revelations which blindsided not only Grey but also Ryder and Theo as well..

This story.  As mentioned briefly, it has good bones.  I liked it.  I really did.  I think the overall theme is brilliant for today’s society, as it may serve as a welcomed light for a darkened tunnel for various readers.  As this is the third book I’ve read by these authors, having read Roses for His Omega, and, Mardi Gras with His Omega, I have come to really enjoy the writing of these two authors.  This story, though, was a bit different for me.  I felt like it needed more depth to the story as a whole, as well as more character development.  With the meatiness of the storyline, there was the potential for superb additions to the existing plot. As it needed a bit more editing, I was a bit confused at times as well.  With the almost fade-to-black sexual moments, in addition to what was lacking, I felt that I had also craved to be brought into a story that was filled with the amount of angst that it had originally had looked like it would contain.  Even though this review has been affected by the afore mentioned items, I will still keep my fingers crossed for additional books for the series, so as to have the multitude of questions which exist finally answered.

Speaking of characters, as there were a few secondary ones, I’d be very interested in reading about their backgrounds, as there really wasn’t much development to them in this story at all.  But, from what I read, this has a lot of potential as well.  I mean, A-LOT.  With names like Jules, Sasha, and, Malinda…they’re a shoe-in for late-night reading..

All in all..I absolutely loved The Dragons and Their Unicorn Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Ophelia Heart.  It was a story with a great storyline, an enticing existing plot, and, beautifully strong main characters.  There were plenty of all-consuming, riveting, and nail-biting moments to completely sate this reader as there were..you know…dragons and a unicorn…and they’re all that is needed for this reader to be content in having read a most exciting, magical and memorable read yet.  🙂
