My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Buying You (ARC) was graciously provided to me by the author for an honest review.

                                  “Love’s Emotional Depth…”

My latest read, upon completion, had my thoughts running all over the place, and, while I had really enjoyed reading it, as there were many different moments when I found myself gushing all over it, there were also moments when my mind was somewhat confused as to exactly what I had just read.

Having just read, Buying You by Wendy Rathbone, has me contemplating where to exactly begin my review of this heart-breaking, thought-provoking, yet heart-warming story.  I guess the beginning is the best place to start…  This particular new release is about strength, love, and redemption.  The plot of this book guides its two beautiful characters down a long and winding road as they discover what love truly is and how its existence is in the last place they’d have originally imagined.

Buying You is a multi-layered story about a young man who goes through life attempting to be who he has always been despite various struggles he’s had to overcome.  Obstacles that made this reader think and contemplate the reality of them all, and, break down as a result of their affect upon many.  It’s also a story about another young man who has lived a different kind of almost forced kind of life, but through a series of events slowly and almost painfully discovers what life truly means to him and what he truly desires from life.

There were many things that I liked about this story.  I enjoyed the mystery behind the two mc’s, despite it driving me absolutely crazy as mysteries normally do.  I really enjoyed the descriptive writing, in general, as I’ve always been a stickler for complete descriptions whether it be for the setting or for the characters.  And, I loved the incredible and emotional revelation of the history of the two mc’s Dane and Kai, and, how their ultimate discovery of their true feelings, through this almost redemption type of revelation, had brought about their deep feelings.  I loved their ultimate connection.

That all being said, I did, however, also feel that there were certain things that could have been done differently.  This story has an absolutely amazing premise, but, unfortunately, it’s hidden so deep within the overly descriptive, albeit beautiful, and, lengthy writing.  Also, while there was some background to the characters, I had also wished that there was more, as well as more to their actual development as well as to their relationship.

Ultimately, the bones to this story was great, with its beautifully descriptive, emotional moments, as well as that long-awaited final destination, and, while I had wished for more to the storyline, I had still enjoyed it, and, did find myself reaching for that box of tissues on more than one occasion.  I really enjoyed it and am glad to have read it.  🙂
