PLAYING FOR KEEPS
Hot Jocks, Book 1
By Kendall Ryan
Release Day: August 13th
About the Book:
I’ve never been so stupid in my entire life.
Elise Parrish, my teammate’s incredibly sweet and gorgeous younger sister, should have been off-limits, but my hockey stick didn’t get the memo.
After our team won the championship, our flirting turned physical, and I took her to bed. Then shame sent her running the next morning from our catastrophic mistake.
She thinks I don’t remember that night – but every detail is burned into my brain so deeply, I’ll never forget. The feel of her in my arms, the soft whimpers of pleasure I coaxed from her perfect lips….
And now I’ve spent three months trying to get her out of my head, but I’m starting to understand she’s the only girl I’ll ever want.
I have one shot to show her I can be exactly what she needs, but Elise won’t be easily convinced.
That’s okay, because I’m good under pressure, and this time, I’m playing for keeps.

Review:
Playing for Keeps by Kendall Ryan
“A Beautifully Gripping Friends-to-Lovers Story”
A beautifully written, heart-warming, friends-to-lovers, low-angst story lead by thoroughly addicting, friendly, humorous, big hockey players and plentiful dedicated, supportive, always-there-for-you-kinds-of-friends. This new release is a story that has all the makings of an emotional, heart-breaking, edge-of-your seat, sports infused, exciting, highly entertaining read with that abundance of heat-filled chemistry.
WHOOP WHOOP! Call me a groupie when it comes to stories with a hockey storyline and I’d say you’d be absolutely correct with that labeling because rarely does there come a time when I pass up a story with…hockey players! It’s those adrenaline saturated game moments that always suck me right into the story that in addition to all of the other enticing story components, always wind up being such great reads.
Playing For Keeps, by Kendall Ryan, was such an intrinsically beautiful, nice story that without-a-doubt pulled out all of the feels for this reader. With this, it really did draw me in to its beautiful storyline. A storyline filled with friendship, hope, love, and, redemption. I loved reading about the journey two long-time friends found themselves venturing down as they tested the slowly changing current of their friendship. I found myself whisper-yelling at my kindle as the main characters, Justin and Elise, began this journey as mistakes and wrong turns were indeed made many times during this fluctuating experiment. It was one of those languidly beautiful attempts at finding one’s complete and loving peace. A peace that would snuff out any lingering demons from one’s damaging past and I absolutely loved it.
One of the best things about this story were the characters. Justin and Elise were great in their ultimate dedication to one another, that despite the initial cloudy vision of their relationship, its ever-presence was an emotional and welcomed surprise for them both. With the addition of super supportive secondary characters, who have their own already-established foundation for their own stories as part of this new series, it will be interesting to see how their own stories develop within this exciting new hockey series.
That all being said, however, while there were many parts of this story that I had really liked, there were also parts that, in this reader’s opinion, needed more development. As briefly mentioned, there seemed to be a teasing of potentiality of such a gripping background to one of the main characters that I was desperate for more depth and development of said character as well as an actual depth to them both. In addition, as this is considered to be a sport romance, I would have also liked more of an inclusion of hockey as in more games or even a practice or two. Lastly, I would also have loved to have read more of the actual relationship of Justin and Elise as it certainly has the makings of such an incredibly beautiful one..
HOWEVER..even with these recommendations and a smattering of typos, Playing For Keeps is still a great story with such a great storyline with wonderfully addicting characters that has this reader looking forward to more from this new and upcoming series..as I really liked it.:)
