Author: Carey Heywood
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: September 22, 2017

Paige Sullivan’s life is a train wreck. In a matter of months she lost her business, her swanky apartment, and her big city life. Now she’s stuck in Nowhere, New Hampshire, sleeping on her mom’s couch. If that wasn’t bad enough, she’s forced to do odd jobs for money. She has a plan though, and once she’s saved enough, she’s out of there. That is, as long as she doesn’t murder her sexy new employer first.

Asher Thompson is the ruggedly handsome hermit of the Thompson clan. Tall, ridiculously sexy despite his beard, and annoyingly aloof, his main concern is his privacy. He fills his days with his work as a carpenter and the peaceful solitude of his lake house. A peaceful solitude that vanished the moment Paige Sullivan stormed into his life, hell-bent on driving him crazy.

The problem is, opposites attract and each time they cross paths she works her way further under his skin.

Fix Me Not (ARC) was graciously provided to me by Enticing Journey Book Promotions for an honest review.

“The Magic of a Peaceful Lake..”

Unconditional love, unwavering dedication, and, heart-warming sacrifice are just some of the things that come to mind at the conclusion of my most recent read. And, now I’m feeling all kinds of squishy, because there were some beautiful things going on in that read. Fix Me Not, by Carey Heywood, is a book which proved to this reader, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Prince Charming really does exist. Except there aren’t any white horses, or, majestically grand castles. There are the simple things that exist rather than the grandiose. And, that is just fine by me. What stood out for me, was not all of the hoopla found in many of the extravagant books, but, it was the unconditional support and love, regardless of anything, that I found so appealing.

Fix Me Not was one of those books that had me all over the place. I seriously wanted to see if I could wrap up Mr. Yummy, aka Asher, and try to place him snuggly into my pocket and quietly take him home with me. He was absolutely that amazing. He was one of those individuals who should have earned himself a medal, or two..or three..or four..as a result of his most valiant of actions. He was such a great character, and, I fell for him immediately and completely. I was able to really empathize with him about his need for peace and tranquility. He made me melt. But, then, I also wanted to nicely strangle Paige, because she just got on my last nerve. I may have yelled a bit too loudly at my kindle as a result of some of her actions, while simultaneously exclaiming, “Really, Paige?? Reeeaally?” While I was proud of some of her accomplishments, she still had a need for growth. But, that’s what I believe this book was about..simply loving. And…*scratches head* I guess that’s what makes the writing stand out, the wide range of emotions felt as a result of reading. So, yes, the writing was good in that respect, but…but…I needed more.

As this was my first book read by this author, having not read the prior book, Fix Her Up, from The Fix series, I began this particular one without having a whole lot of background information aside from the blurb. And, that was fine, as it didn’t really affect the reading. But, it is still recommended to read the first book, as it would add to the overall enjoyment of the series. That being said, I still felt that there was a lack of character background and development within this particular book. There needed to be more depth as a whole. As briefly mentioned, the mc’s were written very well, for the most part. I really felt it when they were understandably butting heads, but, I also felt that the relationship had developed rather quickly and seemed to be quite one-sided. I was unable to feel that moment when the change in their relationship was discovered. All I saw was a wonderful man, who had actually developed feelings, but, for someone who hadn’t really been shown as the kind, attentive, and, loving individual as he had. The complete connection just wasn’t there. It actually broke my heart knowing the extent at which one of the characters had gone through to show his absolute love, when I just couldn’t see nor feel anything different from the other, other than the….challenging and materialistic ways she had started out to contain. However, at the end, with that surprise ending, I was finally able to feel that something by not only one of the characters, but, also, feel that necessary connection for both. But…those endings… GAH…

Fix me Not had many secondary characters, who did make cameos from the first book, and, who did make for some fun times, and, while I know their hearts were in the right place, some of them, in addition to some of the new characters, I felt..enjoyed discovering just a bit too much about the private lives of others, and that made me cringe. Even though some got on my nerves, a bit, I do have my favorites. *cough* Noah *cough* Gideon.

I did enjoy reading Fix Me Not. I felt that it had an easy pace, with very little angst. I enjoyed reading about the peaceful surroundings of Asher’s Land. And, I enjoyed the importance of family. However, I was disappointed with that..automatic *achem* decision, during intimacy, which had been made by the female mc, but, there was still good chemistry. While there were times when I had a hard time connecting with the entire plot, there were also times when I felt like I could just reach out and grab it, because it was just so close to being a completely smooth and connecting one, but, there were just some necessary elements that were lacking. It was almost there, and, I could almost feel it all, but, now, come on..a storyline with a strong, kind, and gentle family-oriented man who would do anything for his family and friends?? *Pfft* Yeah, he could have had..two heads and I still would have looooved him and still would have enjoyed reading about him as well…:)

“Here,” Paige says, passing me a water and a plate of fries through my window.
I’m back in the parking lot of the Moose tonight, parked right next to Millie’s Explorer.
“Are you trying to drug me?” I had asked.
She shrugs her slender shoulders. “Consider it a truce.”
I’ve finished all of the fries and am still working on my drink when she returns an hour or so later.
“Shouldn’t you be playing with your wood?”
I choke on my water.
“This your idea of a truce?” I ask, once I’m done coughing.
“Humor me,” she says, leaning against my door. “You hired my mom so you wouldn’t have to leave your land. Now you’re leaving it every day to stalk me. What gives?”
My head jerks back. “I am not stalking you.”
She presses her lips together before a bubble of laughter escapes. “What would you call it?”
I frown partly at her question and more so at the way she’s acting. “Why are you being nice to me?”
