“The Tangible Importance of Love..”
The Collar of Freedom, by Alexandra Iff, was the first book I’ve read by this author. It is a multi-layered emotional story of heart-gripping and moving moments. It’s plot, in my opinion, was a very familiar one, with additional surprising turns. It’s a keep-you-on-the-edge of your seat, lengthy type of read that had me frequently tearing up and biting my nails throughout reading it. I felt the writing was, at times, a combination of the recognizable as well as the unrealistic as well. The plot consisted of a one-sided cat and mouse, wishy-washy, type of game, most of the time, interspersed with huge heart-felt emotions. I really liked a majority of the characters, whose emotions could be felt most of the time, but a select few, not always. I loved many of them. I did find it to be so upsetting to read, multiple times, as well as incredibly frustrating, due to the initial unwanted development of the relationship, which was practically forced, by the amount of insatiable desperation built by sexual greed and blame by one of the characters. Desperation was just one of the forces that propelled this one character, that in the end, contributed to these forces collectively not sitting well with me at all. There were many shocking moments that just had me sitting here with my mouth hanging open in disbelief. And, I think I may have actually cheered when she learned from her mistakes and their consequences. By the end of this gripping story, there does remain many open questions, which I am predicting that many, if not all, will be answered in the upcoming book(s).
