Rings Trilogy, Champions Series, Book 2

Lucas

I tell myself I can do it all over again. And do it better. Even without a boyfriend.

I mean…who better to succeed at the Olympics than me? Though training this close to Cam again and seeing how his body has developed might be too much for me.

Plus, being naked in the locker room with him makes it even harder…to focus.

It doesn’t take long for my pining curiosity to turn into desperate hope.

Is it possible that Cam still has feelings for me?

Camden

I relied on Erika to survive my heartbreak. I even made a new friend, the tall glass of water known as Colton. Any normal gay dude would have thrown themselves at him and said, ‘Pick a hole.’

Not me, of course. While I was tempted, at least one part of me didn’t give the green light. My heart.

What was left of it still belonged to Luke.

Without answers for what happened in Brisbane, he’s my teammate again. If only my hormones would mind their own business, then maybe I could focus on the Olympics and worry about Luke after I win.

Piece of ass…I mean, piece of cake.

I’m so fucked.

Floored by Love is a full-length gay romance novel, the second in the Rings Trilogy, with no major triggers, but possibly a little angst. Within these pages, you’ll find notepad flirting, almost-sex in a hospital, freeballing, a wet superhero with a bare ass, five Olympians in a hot tub and muscles flexing beneath designer jockstraps. Oh. It’s also the Olympics again. And though there’s a third book coming, there is no cliffhanger this time.

Excerpt:

“No! No! No!” Cassandra yelled at me for what seemed like the fifth time in five minutes. I was on the pommel horse and apparently, I wasn’t performing to her standards. “Your transitions are getting sloppy, Lucas. How many times have I told you that?”

I finished the flair sequence I was on and dismounted. “Too many to count,” I muttered.

But she must’ve heard me. “You’re gonna keep counting, Lucas. Because I’ll keep saying it until you get it right.” I felt my eyes roll before I could stop them and she barked, “Again!”

She worked me on the horse until my arms were jelly and she could tell. I was really getting sloppy when she finally told me to take a break. I knew not to complain about the intensity. That only made it worse with her. After almost four years, I knew what not to do around her. Complaining was one of those things, and talking about anything personal was another. I headed over to the bench, wiped the sweat off my brow and armpits with a towel, and alternated sips between Gatorade and water.

Ty jogged over to me. “Is it safe?” he joked.

I looked behind him. “Probably not for long.” Cassandra was on her phone. “How’s it going, Ty?”

“That’s ‘Coach Ty’ to you, bro.”

“Ah yes. I still don’t understand how you manipulated Woodward into giving you that kind of authority, Assistant Coach Ty.”

“My natural charm?”

“You certainly put the ass in assistant.

Devil’s Dance by Garrett Leigh (Arc) Review!

Devil's Dance (Rebel Kings MC #1)Devil’s Dance by Garrett Leigh

“An Exciting, Mysterious, and Gripping MC Story”

Devil’s Dance is a dark, mysterious, nail-biting, emotional and exciting MC story filled with beautifully tattooed, strong, compassionate and devoted men who battle their way, in more ways than one, into being the strongest and mightiest of motorcycle clubs.  Scarred and broken, fluid and accepting, humorous and human, needy and brutal.  The characters of this story lead the way with not only their minds but also their hearts and motorcycles for a gripping, trigger-filled, gut-wrenching story, dabbled with humorous moments, that has this reader already eager for the next story of this exciting duet.

Man oh man!  Devil’s Dance was quite the exciting yet mysterious read that crept up on this reader as the doings of motorcycle clubs and their rivals was a deep and darkly detailed one that needed repeated readings from this reader.  Mighty displays of dominance and savagery between motorcycle clubs and international mafia were frequent for seemingly simple rights of ownership.  This in addition to mysterious, traumatized, and intrinsically wonderful men, this story was an addicting one.  Under normal circumstances, with this conglomerate of power comes a need for normalcy and peace.  For Cam, the president of the Rebel Kings, this is a desperate need, a need so vital and raw that only the most dominant, attentive, and loving will do.

Gah…the main characters, Cam, Alexei, and Saint, are mysterious, strong, needy, beautiful souls. Their known pasts so broken and heartbreaking that their need for warmth, chemistry and actual presence was medicinal.  Despite their lengthy game of cat and mouse riddled with partially unanswered questions, their need for one another was palpable and ultimately smoldering.

Devil’s Dance, by Garrett Leigh, was a dirty ride for the Rebel Kings club and while they all had to dance with the devil numerous times, their ultimate desire for peace, productivity, and family, was achieved by some guardian angel from the shadows, who was at the right place at the right time and wouldn’t have anything but this kind of protection.  Even thought there was a bit of confusion, and a need for more character and plot development; this story, with it’s addicting storyline, great main characters and intriguing and mostly wonderful secondary ones, it was a great beginning to such an exciting duet.  I really liked it….:)

Star Crossed, Book 2

Marco Chase is the lead singer for Static, one of the world’s most famous and successful rock bands. Marco’s bad boy rock star image isn’t just one he’s cultivated for his fans—it’s Marco all over. Marco’s past is full of one night stands, bad decisions, and blackouts. Marco never saw a cage he didn’t want to rattle—and from the moment he lays eyes on him, he really wants to rattle sweet, innocent Ben Selden’s cage.

Ben Selden comes from a fundamentalist Baptist family. Ben is struggling under the weight of knowing that he’s gay, and a lifetime’s teachings that tell him that his God will condemn him, and his family reject him, if they ever find out. With a future he doesn’t want already mapped out for him, Ben’s at a breaking point when he meets Marco.

Marco’s teasing, flirting, and obvious interest awakens a hunger in Ben, and he knows this might be his only chance to act on his attraction to a man—if he’s brave enough to risk his future, and his family, to take it. He doesn’t expect Marco to be his savior, but maybe a savior isn’t what Ben needs—maybe he just needs someone to believe in him enough that he’s willing to save himself.

Because of Ben is the second book in the Star Crossed series, where regular guys meet famous ones, and sparks fly.

Special Release Blitz Excerpt:

In the dining room, Marco veered straight for the coffee. If he couldn’t get his nicotine fix yet, he sure as shit needed his caffeine fix. Then, balancing his coffee cup carefully against the rim of a plate, he loaded up on bacon and toast and retreated to a table at the back. He unhooked his sunglasses from the neckband of his T-shirt and put them on. He was a rock star. He was supposed to look like a douche.

The dining room wasn’t too busy. An older couple, a woman in business attire, a couple with two young kids. A guy in checkered chef’s pants replacing the trays in the bain-marie.

Marco wiped his greasy fingers on his jeans and wondered where the closest place to buy cigarettes was. He’d ask at the desk when he extended his booking. Then he’d buy a pack and sit his ass down on one of the planters out front and smoke the day away. Because what else was there to do in Dayton?

He googled local tattoo shops. Was it cheating to see another tattoo artist on the side? Probably. When a guy pierced both your nipples, you bonded. Yeah, he’d wait until he was back in LA and see Jimmy again.

Ha! And his parents worried he couldn’t commit.

A bunch of young people in matching blue polo shirts and red lanyards came through the door. His first thought was multi-level marketing. They all looked like they’d drunk the Kool-Aid or the protein shake that cured cancer or whatever shit they were selling. As they lined up for the buffet, he saw that the shiny laminated cards hanging off their lanyards had crosses on them.

Marco almost recoiled like a vampire out of instinct.

There had to be thirty of them, all young and earnest. His gaze caught on a leggy redhead who looked like she might want to let down that high-pinned ponytail of hers with the right incentive, but then he got a look at the guy standing behind her in the line.

Pretty boys had always been his weakness, and this one was hella pretty. He couldn’t be more than twenty or twenty-one. He had bone structure as fine as a girl’s and light brown hair cut in a choppy style. He had pale skin, with a smattering of imperfect freckles across the bridge of his nose. Marco was too far away to see his eye color, but he imagined gray or blue. The guy had a full mouth that looked made for lazy kisses if Marco was feeling sweet, or messy blowjobs if he wasn’t. And something about that neatly tucked polo shirt and perfectly straight lanyard made him want to put the guy on his knees and get him good and dirty.

He grabbed his plate and headed for the buffet again. Squeezed right into line beside the guy because he’d guessed they’d all be too damned polite to call him out on it. He glanced at the guy’s lanyard.

Ben Selden.

Lancaster Bible College.

Tri-State Inter-College Faith Conference.

“Hey,” he said.

Pretty Boy Ben lifted his wide-eyed gaze from the tattoos curling out from underneath Marco’s sleeves. “Good morning.”

“You don’t mind me cutting in, do you?”

Ben flushed. “Uh, no, you go ahead.”

Marco rolled his shoulders, tightening his shirt across his torso. He didn’t miss the way Ben’s gaze darted to his nipples and to the barbells pressing against the thin fabric of his shirt. He also didn’t miss the flush climbing Ben’s throat as he figured out what they were.

He reached out for some more bacon and used the tongs to wrestle a few more pieces onto his plate. Then he winked at Ben and stepped out of line again. “Thanks.”

Ben nodded and swallowed as Marco sauntered away.

Marco grinned as someone else in the line whispered, “Do you know who that is?”

Satan himself probably, according to this crowd, but it was nice to know that the Jesus kids had heard of him, even if they probably only bought his albums to burn them. Like Marco gave a fuck. As long as he got his cut of royalties, he didn’t give a shit if people shoved his merchandise up their asses. He’d always been a pragmatist.

Because of Ben (Star Crossed, #2)Because of Ben by Lisa Henry

                                            “A Heart-Breaking, Emotional, Hopeful Story”

Because of Ben, by Lisa Henry, was a raw, emotional, gut-wrenching, indescribably hopeful read.  It’s storyline an intrinsically necessary and hopeful one.  It’s characters brave, valiant, kind, humorous, and, actually close-minded.  This was a realistic portrayal of individuals needing to live as their true selves regardless of any emotional backlash from family and friends.  This story is a heartbreaking yet heart-warmingly amazing beautiful story.

Gah, I believe I lost a copious amount of fluids as I read this nail-biting emotional story, as I was absolutely glued to the pages of my kindle because I had-to-read, but couldn’t read, as the gut-wrenching thoughts, and ever-encompassing need, of a beautiful young man over powered him, as he attempted to simply live his life, with Beliefs being such an ingrained part of him.  Due to the lengthy inner monologue of desperate thoughts, such grief and heartache was inevitable, as this beautiful soul battled his thoughts and his entire being.  It’s times like those, with an unknown future, that guardian angels are a necessity.

I loved Ben as his truth and plight towards happiness rose above thoughts and visions of a Fundamentalist upbringing.  My heart ached as a result of this upbringing and had an outpouring of hope for not only Ben and his brothers, but also for some sort of compassion from friends and family.  Ben’s pureness was pristine and medicinal as his kind and caring nature was just what the doctor ordered for Marco, who had needed something to guide him towards his own form of happiness as well.  Ben and Marco, a college student and musician, needed the other for so many different reasons as their light was a needed one for them both.

Because of Ben was such a great addicting story.  It’s absolutely nail-biting, heart felt moments were interspersed with scream cheering and bouts of ugly crying.  The need to squeeze hug characters was never stronger than during this read.

Even though there was slight confusion with the direction of the plot towards the end, a need for more depth and development, and the existence of plenty inner monologue, it was a super amazing story.  I loved it.  🙂

Every inch of my skin stretched tight as I strolled across my small office, in no rush to greet Lily and her fiancé Levi.
Grasping the door knob, I paused.
God help me. Give me the strength to deal with this little vixen.
I pulled the door inward, and the scent of vanilla swept over me, turning on my drool factory along with the rest of my body.
Dark, flashing eyes, a sexy smirk—
“Hi,” she purred, popping her jean-clad hip out and toying with the ends of her long, dirty-blonde locks falling over her shoulder.
I cleared my throat and stepped back, motioning her in even though I wished I could yank her into my arms and devour her mouth instead. “Good afternoon, Lily.”
She moved into my office on a cloud of sweet-scented temptation, holding my gaze. “Zeke, this is Levi my fiancé,” she said, her husky voice making my semi twitch. “Levi, Zeke.”
I’d forgotten all about the damn man coming along with her.
Forcing a pleasant smile, I tore my focus off her for the man approaching in my periphery to fill the doorway.
Pale green eyes stared at me as though caught in a goddamn spotlight, snagging my breath like a kick to the groin.
Him.
My stranger from Nashville.
A rush of blood pounded in my head, drowning out the curses ringing between my ears. I fought to exhale, to make it sound steady lest my staggered insides’ reaction rose across my face for Lily to see.
Levi stood unmoved in front of me at almost eye level, frozen, his face void of expression.
Stunned as fuck just like me.
Every inch of me buzzed like a live wire ready to explode—the exact same energy that had zapped between us as real as the sooty lashes around his gorgeous eyes. My fingers stretched at my sides, tingling to reach out to grab hold of his wide shoulders and yank him against me, but I didn’t move.
Should I admit to knowing him or pretend we’d never met?
Did Lily know how he’d kissed a stranger eight months earlier? Had Levi—the man who flooded my entire body with a deep yearning to sin—admitted to his fiancé his lust for the same sex?
Even if he had, she couldn’t have known I’d been the one since he and I hadn’t exchanged a single word let alone names on that night.
Levi blinked first, dropping his focus to the floor in such an act of submission I wanted to tip his clean-shaven chin up, and…I didn’t know. Kiss him? Fucking devour his luscious mouth, his beautiful fiancée be damned?
Fuck.
With no answers to my dilemma brightening above my head like a cartoon light bulb, I did the only thing I could in the situation.
“Come on in,” I rasped out and forced myself to take my focus off his clean-shaven jaw to shut the door. My hands shook, and every breath I drew remained shallow as fuck.
The sound of feet shuffling on carpet met my ears, and I quickly closed my eyes, shooting off a silent prayer along with a half-dozen more curses before turning to face the affianced couple I was to counsel before they married.

Unholy Yearning (Sinful Natures, #2)Unholy Yearning by Lynn Burke

                                           “A Heartbreaking and Strengthening Read”

Unholy Yearning, by Lynn Burke, is a deeply thought provoking and emotional story filled with spiritual beliefs and a deep-seeded need to live truthfully and peacefully.  The story, as the title implies, is a story with an ever-present palpable craving and desire for love and comfort despite long-standing directional teachings.  It is not to be considered a hearts and flowers type-of-read.  It was very often difficult to read as the seemingly ever-present indescribable heartache and triggered pain was mountainous.  I craved sunshine and happiness within this storyline despite tossing my kindle a few times.

Wow.  Unholy Yearning was quite the read.  It is in this reader’s opinion that it leans more towards a predominantly M/F story, with the ramifications of wanting to live a truthful M/M lifestyle.  This story had plenty of inner conflict and reflection, a constant presence as a result of years of faith-based teachings and an emotionally abusive upbringing.  Inner musings, sexual greed, sacrifice and an incessant heartache which lead to desperation and triggered darkness, had this reader screaming internally and skimming through some of the unspeakable moments.

To say I crazy loved Levi, would be an understatement.  If I wasn’t whisper-yelling at him to find more of his strength, I was cheering for him when he found some of his light.  Both he and Zeke were two lost souls, both fighting for their own survival very differently, and, it was a heart-rending journey.  I could not get enough of Levi, and Zeke was tolerated.  Even though I haven’t read the previous book of the series, I thoroughly enjoyed the cameos of Malachi and Isaac and am already keen on Aaron.  Many of the other secondary characters got on my last nerve and had me giddy for those who were happiness and humor personified.

However.  I needed so much more of Levi and Zeke’s actual relationship.  Their journey was painfully long and heartbreaking and with that added development to their relationship, it would have been more complete and well-rounded rather than within the last quarter of the story.  As the story was on the darker side, any kind of familial bond would have been a breath of fresh air, but appearing at the end, made it a challenge to fully experience.

Unholy Yearning, by Lynn Burke, was a deep and lengthy read with beautiful and worthy main characters who were at war with their beliefs and their hearts.  The main characters were realistically written as the dire need to live one’s true life is certainly a reality for many.  Free and open….

I loved it.  🙂

“An Emotionally Gripping and Powerful MC Story”

The Price of Redemption, by ML Nystrom, gutted me.  It was an emotionally heart-breaking, gripping, indescribably heart-rendering read and it’s heartwarming moments were the necessary balm for many.  Regardless of it’s darkness, it was a story that had-to-be-read.  It’s redemption a needed one.  This MC Romance contains a heavy and intriguingly emotional needy storyline, with strong, mighty, and addicting characters.  This is one of those stories that will dominate, as the hidden yet slowly developing sacrificial hero will bring out all of the feels as his redemption will be a long, winding, and messy one.  So, hold on for an MC ride that will be quite the read….

Wow.  And, I mean, WOW.  I am blown away as a result of my most recent read.  The after effects have dominated my mind and have had me a blubbering mess.  Despite being directed by such a beautiful cover and title, I could not have even predicted on the smallest of scales what I would be reading.  I crazy loved so much of it, yet..there was so much that left me speechless for so many different reasons.

The Price of Redemption is a very dark MC story of rival gangs and the Greek mafia, some with normal lives and families, with their varied plight to dominate the world of drug smuggling and smaller legitimate kinds of businesses, and for the more brutal ones, additional human trafficking, child abuse, and human torture.  One of its struggling presidents, Iceman, with a gut-wrenching past, is at a desperate and unknown crossroads as he begins to claw at normalcy.  Enter Gabriella.  The Scandanavian Savior for his group, and one such man, that despite her initial reasons, turns her unbridled love, compassion and unwavering strength into the conduit that brings them through the biggest of wars.

I adored Iceman and Gabriella, and so very much need to squeeze hug Ricky, as they all blindly made their way through such horrid times and heartache.  It was beautiful, it was breathtaking, it was brutal and ugly….it was indescribable.  Much of the brutality containing such ruthless and barbaric actions which contain triggers that were difficult to read, digest, and absolutely comprehend.  But….that one part….that one part I had to read over and over and over again as my mind could not register it’s meaning.  But, when it did….an ugly crying fest took over and lasted for quite a while.  Because….wow.

The Price of Redemption is clearly a massive story with such an underlyingly beautiful storyline and such a darkly winding plot.  It’s multi-layered characters, many of which are mighty and strong, chivalrous and ultimately wonderfully human, that despite living in a ruthless and sometimes unforgiving world, battle with not only their ever-present palpable demons, but also those less forgiving and decidedly lead by greed and savagery, and that turns into the most nail-bitingly inhumane course of action, that had this reader skim-reading as such a process will find any reader in quite the state of emotions.  As a result, this was undoubtedly quite the read….

That all being said, with it’s deep, dark, and varied plot, also came a bit of confusion as there were some unanswered questions that left this reader confused as a result.  There were also so many horrifying triggers, that in this reader’s opinion, sensitivity should be indicated as a warning, as they were so realistic, nerve-racking and so difficult to read.  In addition, it’s ending felt a bit rushed that despite it being part of a “Am I really reading this, reeealllly?”, it needed to be blissfully experienced by the reader.

Nevertheless, The Price of Redemption, by ML Nystrom, is a powerfully intense yet beautifully heartwarming read for readers who enjoy a really good MC story.

I’ve had stories in my head since I was a child.  All sorts of stories of fantasy, romance, mystery and anything else that captured my interest.  I’m a voracious reader, and have spent many hours in my life devouring books, therefore it’s only fitting I should write a few myself!

I’ve spent most of my life as a performing musician and band instrument repair technician, but that doesn’t mean I’m pigeon-holed into one mold.  I’ve been a university professor, belly dancer, craftsperson, soap maker, singer, rock band artist, jewelry maker, lifeguard, swim coach, and whatever else I feel like exploring.  As one of my students said to me once, “Life’s too short to ignore the opportunities.”   I have no intention of ever stopping so welcome to my story world.  I hope you enjoy it!

Book Description

Can the love of a man heal the heart of a god?

Fertility god Anthos, a shy and gentle three-hundred-year-old virgin, has grown up in the shadow of his brutal older brother Dryas and spent his life hiding from mortals, no matter how much his nature draws him to them.

Cleon, a humble farmer who always has room in his heart and his bed, knows that Lord Dryas is angry. The crops aren’t growing, and his family is going to starve if he doesn’t give the god a worthy sacrifice—his own body. But when he reaches the shrine, he finds a very different god, the sweet, untouched Anthos.

Eager to satisfy Anthos’ curiosity, Cleon shows him what sex is…and what a relationship between them could be, with their instant attraction blooming into love. But when Dryas returns with a vengeance and Cleon’s life hangs in the balance, Anthos is forced to make a choice.

Will he bow once more before his brother’s rage, or take a stand for the only man who has ever had faith in him?

Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of abusive behavior, double penetration, voyeurism, exhibitionism and violence.

Excerpt

Cleon’s heart sank as he walked the rows of his family’s field, scanning for a single green shoot and finding none. The barley was two weeks late for sprouting—if it didn’t start growing soon, his family would starve come winter.

“Anything?” his little sister Amara asked as he left the field. Her hands were wringing the fabric of her peplos skirt even as her eyes said she knew the answer.

“Not one,” he said. “Any eggs from the chickens?”

“Not one,” she echoed. “The gods must be angry at us.”

That was the only explanation Cleon could think of, too. Dryas, their local fertility and forest god, was known for his temper. It would take very little provocation for him to withdraw his blessings.

The family gathered in front of their modest farmhouse, worried faces gazing at their patriarch. Cleon, the eldest son and the only one unmarried, glanced at the other members of the household. Amara sat beside him, while his twin younger brothers sat with their wives, both of whom were pregnant with their first children. They had no servants, no field hands, just them.

“We have to beg Lord Dryas for his forgiveness,” their father said, pacing back and forth. “Someone must go to the shrine and pay tribute. Whatever it takes, this curse on our farm must be lifted!”

“W-whatever it takes?” Amara asked nervously.

“Yes,” their father said gravely, words heavy with guilt. “Whatever it takes.”

His children looked at one another, eyes wide with anxiety. They wouldn’t say it out loud for fear of angering the god, but they knew what their father was asking. Dryas’ tastes in tribute were usually carnal and never kind. None of them had any illusions about what would happen to whoever went to plead their case, but there was no other option.

Cleon looked from face to face. Neither of his brothers had any taste for men, and it would be cruel to send either of their wives to such a fate, especially pregnant as they both were. As for Amara, the thought made his stomach twist in disgust. There was only one choice.

“I’ll go,” he said, getting to his feet.

“Are you sure?” Amara asked. “You know what—what he’ll do to you.”

“I know,” Cleon said, trying to sound brave. “But I’ve been with men, so it won’t be so bad for me as it would be for one of you.”

It was weak reasoning, but none of the others had anything better. Cleon was tall and strong, hardy enough to take some punishment and tan from hard labor in the sun. He was no Adonis, but he’d been called ruggedly handsome by past lovers, and he’d earned every muscle on his arms and chest. Dryas preferred pretty youths and maidens over men in their late twenties, but hopefully the god would accept his tribute anyway.

Cleon bathed in the river, combed his black hair and trimmed his short beard, brown eyes watching his reflection in a still pool. He prepared his body as best he could with slick oil and shaking fingers, hoping to reduce the inevitable pain. Finally, he donned their newest, finest tunic, the one Amara had woven and each of his brothers had worn for their weddings, and picked up their offerings with white-knuckled hands. There was nothing left to do but go.

Cleon gave his family the bravest smile he could muster, and they smiled back with pinched, anxious faces—all save his father, whose eyes were solemn and dark with guilt, and Amara, who was crying in his arms. Cleon squared his shoulders and turned resolutely toward the woods. He would face any terror and endure any hardship, if only he could save his loved ones from starvation.

The worn dirt path led deep into the forest, twisting and turning on the way to the shrine. Dappled light slipped through the swaying branches as chittering squirrels fled his passage to peer down at him from the trees.

He suppressed a shiver. These woods were old and sacred, the domain of a cruel and capricious god. At least Lord Dryas didn’t like live animal sacrifices—Cleon would hate to make this trek with a squawking, struggling chicken in his arms. Instead, he had a small jug of spiced wine, a half-dozen honey cakes and his own body…no matter how meager his offerings, they would have to be enough.

He had been to the shrine before as part of the harvest festival, placing the fruits of the year’s labors before the god’s great throne. Those had been times of song and drink and dance, honoring Dryas’ bounty and appeasing his temper with revelry and praise. The god had always chosen one or more young worshippers for his pleasure, and the thought made Cleon nearly sick. It always took them days to recover, if not weeks, and their eyes remained haunted for far, far longer.

This time the shrine was empty, the ring of marble pillars standing silent around the sacred oak. At the base was the god’s throne, grown out of the living wood, made for a nine-foot giant of a being. Cleon could remember looking up at him during the last festival—his eyes dark and cold, his legs those of a black deer and his antlers spreading like ancient, gnarled branches.

“Hello?” Cleon called, looking around for the shrine’s priest. The little hut next to the sacred circle was empty, but that shouldn’t have been a surprise. Lord Dryas tended to discard his priests when they turned twenty-five, and he must not have found a new one yet. It seemed like Cleon would have to beg for divine intervention on his own.

He walked to the stone altar and tried to keep his hands from shaking as he kindled the sacred flames. He doused the honey cakes in wine then fed them to the fire. The offerings were more than his family could really afford, but still they seemed too little. Finally, Cleon knelt before the great throne, pressing his forehead to the grass and trying to look as humble and pathetic as possible.

“Oh Lord Dryas, god of the forest and the field,” he prayed. “I beg your forgiveness! Whatever sin my family or I have committed against you, I humbly offer these gifts to appease your wrath.”

There was a deep, terrifying silence broken only by the blood pounding in Cleon’s ears. He dug his fingers into the grass, eyes squeezed shut, praying with all his might. If Dryas didn’t answer—

“Uh…yeah…” The voice was so small and hesitant that Cleon almost missed it. “Not your fault, really…”

Cleon’s head snapped up and he scanned the treeline. He didn’t see the speaker at first, looking for a taller shape, but when he finally found him…

Oh gods, the young man was exactly Cleon’s type. He looked to be twenty or a little younger, cute and small and beardless, with willowy arms and a bare, slender chest. His eyes were a vivid green against sun-bronzed skin dusted with faint freckles, and his light brown curls looked delightfully soft. He was blushing prettily, shifting from foot to foot and biting his full, kissable lower lip.

“Um, hello,” Cleon said when he could remember how words worked. He struggled to stay on task—he was here to save his family, not get distracted by a pretty face. “I don’t suppose you know where the forest god is?”

“That’s the thing,” the youth said, ducking his head bashfully. “I kind of…am the forest god?”

Cleon frowned at him. The young man might be cute, but he was clearly delusional. Yes, the gods could take other forms, but the idea of Lord Dryas becoming so small and adorable was ridiculous.

“I wouldn’t say that if I were you,” Cleon said. “Lord Dryas is not known for his merc—”

He stopped, eyes widening as the young man stepped out into the clearing on slender, delicate hooves. Deer hooves, just like Lord Dryas’. Unlike Dryas, though, his flanks were dappled with faint white spots and tawny brown to match his hair. What Cleon had assumed to be branches above the youth’s head revealed themselves to be antlers, short and nubby and covered in soft-looking velvet.

Cleon’s heart plummeted like a stone. This was no mortal boy, or even a common satyr. There was an aura about him—the trees leaning in just a little to bask in his presence, the sunlight glowing off his skin. He might be different from Dryas, but there was no denying that Cleon was in the presence of a god.

“Please forgive me, great one!” he cried, groveling once more in sudden terror. He already had one god angry at him and he wouldn’t survive a second. “I had no idea—I am so sorry—”

“No, don’t be,” the youth said, sounding weary and miserable. “I’m a pretty terrible god, to be honest.”

“What do you mean, my lord?” Cleon asked, daring to raise his eyes from the grass. The godling was shifting awkwardly from hoof to hoof, not looking at Cleon.

“Your farm,” he said. “It’s my fault nothing’s growing. My big brother left last month and I…well…”

“You mean Lord Dryas?” Cleon asked.

The youth nodded, biting his lower lip in an adorable way, and Cleon couldn’t help a twinge of relief. His farm was still in trouble, but at least this god seemed willing to help.

“I’ve been trying, I really have,” the godling said, running his hands through his hair. The gesture revealed adorable little pointed ears, and Cleon had to fight to stay focused. “I just don’t know how to make it work!”

“My lord—” Cleon started, sitting back up on his knees.

“Anthos, please.” The god ducked his head. “I’m not used to…it feels weird.”

“Anthos,” Cleon said, “what exactly is the problem?”

Anthos sighed, walking over and sitting on the grass a few feet from Cleon. He pulled his fuzzy knees up to his chest, hugging them close and staring at the ground.

“I’m a fertility god,” Anthos explained. “I’m in charge of new life, new growth…or I am now. My brother took care of things for so many centuries that I never learned how to do it. Now he’s gone, it’s my job, and I can’t do anything.”

“He never taught you?” Cleon asked.

“We’re not Olympians!” Anthos cried, eyes flicking up to Cleon and face turning bright red. “Only the highest gods do…that with their siblings.”

“Oh,” Cleon said, blushing too. “Uh, sorry. I didn’t mean—”

“No, no, it’s fine,” Anthos said, dropping his gaze again. “But that’s the problem—it requires personal experience. I can’t make things fertile until I’ve, you know…had sex.”

“Oh,” Cleon breathed. His heart was beating faster now, his throat going dry as he stared at Anthos. “Would a mortal do? A man?”

“Yeah,” Anthos said with a mirthless little chuckle, “if anyone wanted me. Big brother always said nobody would want to sleep with a puny, pathetic runt.”

Rage flared up in Cleon, all the hotter for its rarity. He’d revered and feared Lord Dryas all his life, burying resentment deep in his heart. The gods could be cruel or kind to mortals—that was their right—but this? The thought of treating his own siblings like this made Cleon ball his hands into fists, and a lifetime of suppressed hatred boiled over. For the first time in his life, he spoke ill of a god.

“You’re not a runt!” Cleon cried. “Your brother was a cruel bastard! He made whole families starve…he set wolves on their flocks and took any man or woman he pleased! I bet he cut down your confidence because he was scared of you. Anyone would prefer a god like you over him!”

“R-really?” Anthos gasped, looking up with wide, shocked eyes.

“As long as you don’t send a famine when there aren’t enough dancing girls at your festival,” Cleon said, belly clenching in remembered hunger. “We worshipped him because we were afraid, but nobody liked him.”

“And you…you like…me?” Anthos asked, voice soft and hopeful.

Cleon opened his mouth then closed it again, unsure of what to say. His flirting experience said this was going pretty well, but how was he supposed to proposition a god? He was just a farmer, rough and rugged and no great beauty. Anthos was so out of his league it wasn’t even funny.

Still, in for an obol, in for a drachma. The god didn’t seem like the type to curse someone for asking, and if he said yes…

“I like you a lot,” Cleon said earnestly, “and I’d really like to kiss you.”

“I…” Anthos licked his lips, his gaze lowering. “I’d like that too.”

Cleon scooted forward slowly, like he was approaching a skittish deer. He reached out to cup one cheek, tawny-gold and warm. Sun-dappled lashes fluttered, the godling’s green eyes falling closed as he leaned in with bated breath.

The first kiss was soft and gentle, just a chaste brush of lips. It was a little thing, but it still sent a thrill through Cleon, a surge of desire. His body knew what Anthos was, something wild, ancient and divine. By the time they pulled away, his cock was hard and twitching.

Anthos let out a soft little sigh when they parted. He gave Cleon a shy smile, nervous and sweet.

“Again?” he asked, as though Cleon might say no. Could say no.

The Forest God's Favor (Of Gods and Men #1)The Forest God’s Favor by A.T. Lander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“A Beautifully Mystical and Heartwarming Story”

The Forest God’s Favor, by A.T. Lander, is one of the most beautifully mystical, heartfelt, gripping, emotionally powerful inter-connected story that took this reader by surprise as it’s beauty and efficacy is absolutely staggering.

Wow.  I am blown away and enamored with this story, and even though it could also be considered as a legend, it is never-the-less just as grand.  It’s storyline and plot are emotionally powerful and glorious, it’s characters strong, admirable, brave and addicting.  It’s world building is intriguing, imaginary, and, all-encompassing.  Gah, I could not get enough of it’s characters and their plight for love, life, and companionship.  I could not get enough of Anthos and Cleon.

Anthos, is a godling of Fertility and Forest, who is adorably sweet, kind, loving and intrinsically brave, has long been suffering, as a result of being bullied by his older brother Dryas, the god of Fertility and Forest, which has in turn, prevented him from doing what he was meant to do, help the farmers with their crop and ultimately their survival.  The misery of such a beautiful god has had detrimental affects for all those who need him, including himself.

Cleon, is a humble and brave young man from a large and loving family of farmers, who believe in the guidance of the gods for their prosperity and overall existence.  During a damaging dry spell of their crops, Cleon is put forth the sacrificial duty to appease the gods for the betterment of their crop.  Instead of facing the most brutal of gods, he instead meets the new godling, Anthos, and together with love, faith, strength, and a whole lot of courage, they mend and create an absolutely majestic new world.  And….wow.

This is a mythical yet wonderfully modern story….  It’s storyline and plot were emotionally gripping with strong, loving, and varied characters, all of which live and greatly love and follow their gods.  The inclusion of gods with heartfelt emotions for loved ones and for the fulfillment of their purpose was tastefully done.  With the added sizzling and adored sense of love between the characters, which was so heartwarming and plentiful, it’s overall sense of purpose was understandable.

The Forest God’s Favor, was unlike any story I have ever read, and its beauty, strength and forever kind of love is one that will remain as one of my most favorite reads.  I really, really liked it….:)

                                                    “A Magical Winter Romance”

On a Midnight Clear, by Lily Morton, is a majestically heartwarming, feel good type of read that has this reader all squishy as a result of being transported to a grand home with great history of nobility in Derbyshire, England.  Set as a magically themed holiday romance, this story was a perfect seasonal read.

I thoroughly enjoyed my most recent read as it’s hopeful, humorous and mysterious storyline, with magical creatures and wonderfully dedicated, loving, and intricate characters, brought out all of the feels for this reader.  It’s nail-biting moments were emotional and ultimately squeal worthy.

Set on the ancient and sacred land of aristocratic nobility, it’s presence enamored by many, as it’s present owner, Barnaby, does his best to keep the doors open for all. As this honor does not go unseen, Barnaby’s life changes forever….

Oh my, this story was so beautiful with the descriptively tactile world building and the added beauty of art through paintings, natural gardens, and..statues.  It’s magical creatures set as either whimsical beauties living on the vast grounds of this family, or on the inside as they are gifted with something so much more than any had ever experienced.  Enter..Cosmo.

I loved Barnaby and Cosmo.  Barnaby a struggling noble, and Cosmo a magical lover of life and for Barnaby’s happiness.  I loved their dedication and sacrifice for the other as each learns how to embrace and love life through fresh and new experiences.

On a Midnight Clear was such a wonderfully heartwarming story with great characters and a gripping twist.  I laughed, giggle-snorted, and even ugly-cried.  Even though I would have liked more development in a few areas, it was such a magically dreamy and grand story.  I really liked it….:)
